Bare Coconut Chips: Crunchy, Sweet, Allergen-Free Flavors

    7
By Alisa Fleming on July 18, 2014 Dairy-Free Snack Reviews, Product Reviews

After getting a quick sampling at Expo West, I proclaimed Bare Coconut Chips to be one of the Best New Dairy-Free Products for 2014. A few months have passed, I finally got my hands on some full-size packages to give Bare Coconut Chips a full tasting and review, and I can confirm that my original opinion stands. These things are SO, SO GOOD!

I would even go so far as to say that Bare Coconut Chips are downright dangerous. Light, wafer-like, crispy shards of coconut that make my taste buds believe they have died and gone to a sweet, sweet heaven. I’ve trialed a couple coconut chip brands, but Bare Coconut Chips are currently at the head of the pack for this coconut fan.

Tasting Notes for Bare Coconut Chips

Bare Coconut Chips are crafted in small batches and gently toasted to get their crunch. They come in several varieties; here are my tasting notes on the ones I’ve sampled thus far (I’ll update if I sample others):

    Simply Toasted

This is the “Original” flavor, with simplistic ingredients (coconut, cane sugar and salt – that’s it!), but there is nothing boring about the taste. It is perfectly sweet, warm, and comforting.

    Honey

And just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, they added a touch of honey. These bites of sheer bliss are currently my favorite little treat.

More Flavors of Bare Coconut Chips

We’ve only tried the two above, but they also offer Chocolate coconut chips and a Pineapple Coconut Chips Medley with their Toasted Coconut and dried pineapple.

Past flavors have included Sweet Heat, Flax, and Chia varieties. Those have been discontinued.

Tasty Ways to Enjoy Bare Coconut chips

Keep in mind, Bare Coconut Chips are definitely a treat. They aren’t low in sugars (13 to 14 grams per servings), but I consider them to be a well-worth-it dessert or garnish. Bare Coconut Chips can be:

    • Sprinkled on dairy-free ice cream (dang, I’m out!)
    • Tossed on salads (a tasty crouton or fried wonton replacement)
    • Added to trail mix (nuts, dried fruit, a little chocolate – oh my!)
    • Sprinkle on unsweetened dairy-free yogurt or oatmeal (for a delicious, sweet and crunchy pop)
    • Added to homemade bars (oats + crisps + Bare Coconut Chips = yum)
