Alisa Fleming ~ Growing up, I simply adored veggie burgers. At that time, my taste-testing experience was pretty much limited to the frozen patties from Costco, but since learning more about the vegan diet many years ago, I’ve enjoyed a variety of homemade and restaurant veggie burgers, ranging from vegetable-packed to grainy to downright meaty. I truly thought that I had trialed most types of Veggie Burgers, until I came across Joni Marie Newman's cookbook.
The Best Veggie Burgers on the Planet is the most creative and comprehensive collection of vegan veggie burgers that I have ever laid eyes on. For starters, the cookbook itself has a beautiful rustic feel, with full color photos for several of the recipes (taken by the wonderful Celine Steen). The style has a “busy” feel, yet the layout is neat, clean, and easy to follow. This cookbook is practical, but also has a fun theme and is more than attractive enough to make a great gift.
As for the contents, the chapters in The Best Veggie Burgers on the Planet include:
- How to Use this Book (brief, but includes some very helpful tips.)
- Burgers for Breakfast
- Burgers from the Far East
- Burgers from the Middle East
- Burgers from the Boot (Italy)
- Burgers from the Heartland (U.S.)
- Burgers with Latin Flavor
- Burgers from Around the World
- Burgers for the Holidays
- Loose “Meat” Sandwiches
- Condiments and Sauces
- Buns and Breads
- Sides and Salads
- A Few Desserts
