It is hard for me to believe that it took me this many years to finally trial the delicious chocolates from Chocolate Emporium. As a kosher shop, all of their chocolates are Pareve and dairy-free!
Every chocolatier has their niche and in my opinion, Chocolate Emporium fills a very special one. As mentioned, the first niche they address is the dairy-free and kosher community. But secondly, they offer variety with supreme attention to detail. Offering chocolates for seriously every occasion. Each perfectly molded into cute, fanciful shapes. They taste delicious too!
Along with bars and lollipops, Chocolate Emporium continues to go above and beyond. Their rich truffles, specialty chocolates, and assorted studded chocolate barks are truly unique and such a treat.
Tasting Notes for Chocolate Emporium
Bars, holiday lollipops, and chocolate coated treats – we got to give a little of each a try.
Classic Chocolate Bar
Diving into that chocolate bar first led me to classify Chocolate Emporium’s core chocolate as 60 to 70% dark. It has a slight intense cocoa flavor, but sweet enough to appeal to most taste buds. The light buttery sweet aftertaste was unique and truly enjoyable. It was the type of bar you could easily devour without even noticing and somewhat reminiscent of that addictive candy bar chocolate.
Beyond the chocolate bar, we received a sampling of their Halloween and everyday shapes in bite sized chocolates and large lollipops. My husband’s favorite was the Frankenstein, because “he looked so mean.” I on the other hand, went for a few of the more “adorable” dark chocolate lollies first.
Each of these dark chocolate lollipops has the same buttery chocolate taste as the bar that I loved so much. The nicely portioned size was enough to satisfy the sweet tooth without going overboard.
Orange White Chocolate
However, Chocolate Emporium doesn’t stop with the dark chocolate alone. They also have a very sweet confectioner’s white chocolate that they use to dress up many of their confections. Dairy-free white chocolate is hard to come by, so this was an exciting find! The orange flavored white chocolate web simply melted in my mouth. When eaten together the dark and orange essence chocolates were sweet bliss. Admittedly, my husband found it to be a touch to sweet, but I really enjoyed it!
This chocolate coated sandwich cookie was a chocolate lover’s delight. It was a standard Oreo cookie enrobed in a very thick blanket of semi-sweet dark chocolate. Pure deliciousness.
The only thing that caught me slightly off guard with this combination was the dark aftertaste of the chocolate. The Oreos are quite sugary and reminiscent of childhood, but the dark, slightly bittersweet, burst at the end was rather grown-up. Nonetheless, it was addicting and seriously decadent.
My only qualm was the use of hydrogenated oils in their confectioner’s chocolate. A switch to palm or coconut oil would put them over the top in my books.
For adorable and tasty chocolates that are perfect for gift-giving (perhaps even to yourself?), this is one dairy-free chocolatier that I can certainly recommend.
