So Delicious CocoWhip is a Cool Dairy-Free Whipped Topping

    60
By Alisa Fleming on October 6, 2014 Dairy-Free Cream Reviews (Sour, Whipped & More), Dairy-Free Dessert Topping Reviews, Product Reviews

Did you know that non-dairy whipped toppings can contain milk protein (casein), and most do? Fortunately, there are some wonderful whipped toppings that are truly dairy-free, like So Delicious CocoWhip!

Similar to Cool Whip, CocoWhip comes in a convenient tub format in both Original and Lite varieties. But unlike mainstream brands, this dairy-free whipped topping is vegan, free of top allergens, kosher parve, and even carrageenan-free.

So Delicious Dairy Free CocoWhip Coconut Whipped Topping Reviews and Info

So Delicious CocoWhip is a Cool Dairy-Free Whipped Topping

CocoWhip is sold frozen, but it thaws into an aerated, fluffy consistency that keeps in the refrigerator for a week or so. It’s light yet very creamy with a sweet and indulgent flavor. Though I didn’t see vanilla in the ingredients, CocoWhip did strike our tasters as slightly vanilla, and it didn’t seem to shout coconut. But you might detect some tropical notes in the underlying flavor.

We haven’t tested CocoWhip in some of those Kraft-style recipes, like cream pies (be sure to leave a rating and review below if you do!). But we did use it as a dessert topping and it was fabulous. The one caveat is that it melted a little oddly atop hot desserts, but that didn’t deter from the taste.

Overall, we were impressed. Our dairy eating tasters thought CocoWhip dairy-free coconut whipped topping was quite close to Cool Whip in taste and consistency, but without a drop of dairy!

Wonderful flavor. Can’t keep it in the house! I bought it the first time at Walmart but they seldom have it in stock. Found it again at Harris Teeter. Yay! We love it better than cool whip.

Due to some lactose intolerance issues in our family plus trying to eat healthier, tried coco whip — it’s absolutely yummy! And I used it in a jello salad desert to rave reviews! Best of all, it’s available at my local Giant Eagle grocery as well as the organic grocery store. Try it. You’ll like it!!

    Best cocowhip ever

Cocowhip is so dreamy. I love it is as close to coolwhip as possible without the scary words in the ingredients. Only Winn Dixie would carry it.
I tried another brand vegan whip when they were out called truewhip and it was awful grainy taste, a big turn off.
I’ll ask the publix manager if they can carry Cocowhip.

There are a lot of food shortages going on again, and distribution continues to be an issue for many companies. But it hasn’t been discontinued.

I can’t eat dairy and found this in our local store. It is the best I have ever had. Only complaint: It hasn’t been available in the Fred Meyer we use in quite a while.

I’ve never thought of trying it since I’m not a Cool Whip fan anyway, but this was a really pleasant surprise. It’s fab with frozen or fresh cherries, other berries, or virtually any other fruit!

Beats Cool Whip by a mile

    Rated 5 out of 5
    April 4, 2021

I won’t touch Cool Whip which is a nasty concoction of hydrogenated oils, HFCS and a list of chemical ingredients. But it does have a texture that holds up in desserts where real whipped cream will fall apart. Coco Whip has that same consistency but tastes MUCH better and has none of the suspect ingredient list. It has real cane sugar, non-hydrogenated coconut oil, and some natural gums for thickeners. I can deal with that. And it really has a much fresher and more “real” taste that Cool Whip. Worth the extra cost!

I have enjoyed CocoWhip for a year now. In central Florida, we get it in our Publix stores, right by Cool Whip. In Arizona in April, it was being “tested”, I think. A stocker said it was “only on holidays”, but I think he was wrong. I enjoy it on puddings, and with fresh fruit like red raspberries and blueberries. Yumm! (I eat gluten-free and cow’s milk dairy free. It took me years to identify what caused sinus infections bad enough to need antibiotics about every other month. No cow’s milk casein equaled no more sinus infections! I can use goat milk and cheeses. Different protein.)
For those not finding it, ask your grocer to get it. I notice our stores started with just a couple of containers, and you had to be right there. Now more is stocked.
I am looking for a way to match the Philadelphia cream cheese/Dream Whip filling that we use to make a dish called Cherry Delight – graham cracker crust, filling, fruit pie filling on top. I can substitute for the crust, but have not found a good mix with CocoWhip for the filling.

It is a year round product Bev. If you can’t find it, you can use homemade coconut whip in the recipe.

My Daughter introduced me to this & it’s so delicious & healthy too, can l buy this in the UK?

      • Alisa Fleming on May 10, 2018 7:01 am

I’m not sure if it is available outside of the U.S. at this time.

    4. Adrianne on December 12, 2017 9:56 pm

What a nice surprise. Going dairy free and found this CoCo Whip at my favorite shopping delivery service. It is so delicious.

Using it to dip my gingerbread cookies in but will look for some healthy recipes to use it in and will top hot chocolate with it.

Surprisingly sweet enough with only 2 grams of sugar in 2 tbsp. Great product.

Don’t worry, they’ll be doing their best to make sure it’s fully stocked for pie season!

Is it possible to add some vanilla extract and whip it so it has a more vanilla taste?

    9. Elisa Wolfe on January 31, 2017 1:55 am

Alisa, thank you so much for providing this information! It isn’t available at the Whole Foods in my area,
but I think I will ask the manager to stock it. You have taken the time to give the best reviews and answering
people’s comments is so wonderful. You have a great website! Thanks again ~

    10. Kelli on January 5, 2017 5:07 pm

For those of you struggling with the difficult lid, a truwhip lid fits perfectly, and I bet a cool whip lid would fit was well.

    11. Eleanor on December 13, 2016 6:16 pm

      We really like this product.
We struggle, however, getting the lid off – both me and my husband.

      • Alisa Fleming on December 23, 2016 3:53 pm

I whole-heartedly agree with you there Eleanor. I’ve broken a nail or two on that lid!

        • Kelli deWitt on January 5, 2017 4:59 pm

I found it painful to open as well, so I saved a normal lid from a container of truwhip and use that as the lid for cocowhip. It fits perfectly.

    12. Stacey on November 25, 2016 7:34 pm

This stuff is amazing!!! I am so grateful! Such a dream to have pumpkin pie with whipped topping again!!

    13. Sheri on October 7, 2016 4:43 am

Where Can I find this, I want to try it and have been to Sprouts, Trader Joes and Vons

      • Alisa Fleming on October 9, 2016 7:45 am

I buy it at Whole Foods Sheri, but have also seen it at Raley’s (major grocer) in my area. I’m not sure if Walmart will be carrying this (they carry the So Delicious cashew ice creams). It has been out of stock a lot in recent months, but I just spotted fresh inventories of it (finally!).

    14. Ev Scannell on August 29, 2016 6:55 pm

I used to love cocowhip but lately I find that it has a heavier texture, not light and fluffy. Drier. Has the formula changed or am I maybe buying old product?

      • Alisa Fleming on August 29, 2016 8:16 pm

You know, I’m not sure Ev. The stock on CocoWhip hasn’t returned yet in my area, and I steered clear of what looked like older tubs lingering on the shelf. Hopefully it isn’t changed! I’ll hopefully try a new batch soon.

    15. Carol on August 25, 2016 3:43 pm

This has a very coconut taste, so don’t bother trying it if you don’t like coconut. We tried to make a chocolate whipped icing recipe with this and it was NOT good. It really not at all like Cool Whip unfortunately.

Unfortunately, they stopped making this. I am very sad.

      • Alisa Fleming on June 5, 2016 4:32 pm

It hasn’t been discontinued Tiffany – CocoWhip is still being made. They might just be having a stock issue in your area. I’ll double check though.

        • Michael O on June 9, 2016 12:24 pm

My local grocer has mentioned the product has been discontinued 🙁 I Just sent an e-mail to the manufacture. This really stinks!

          • Alisa Fleming on June 9, 2016 12:48 pm

Don’t worry, it’s not! I just talked to them this week – they had a stock shortage, but it will be back on shelves around late June!

    18. amiee on December 1, 2015 6:03 pm

love this stuff! i bought the original and it is delicious. just a heads up to those of you who can’t find it, it is in the freezer section! mentioning this because i couldn’t find it when looking and when i did find it, it was totally by accident while browsing the veg foods in freezer section.

      • Alisa Fleming on December 2, 2015 12:47 pm

Good thing to note amiee – it is only sold frozen and best stored that way too, until you are going to use it. Thanks for pointing this out!

        • Judy on March 18, 2016 8:35 am

I agree with the texture remarks, but please tell people not to waste their money if they don’t like the taste of coconut. I hate coconut, and this stuff tastes like it.
