A friend of Go Dairy Free, Amy B., trialed Pamela’s Simplebites Mini Cookies, and has the quick review below to share. However, Pamela’s seems to be phasing out their Simplebites line. The Chocolate Chip cookies are still available, but the other flavors have been discontinued. To see currently available products, see Pamela’s Amazon Page (not all are dairy-free, so read the product carefully). For other gluten-free, dairy-free mini cookie options, try Partake Foods Mini Cookies and Enjoy Life Mini Cookies.
I had no idea where to start in on the huge box of Pamela’s goodies I received. Which would I pick? Should I make something? Eat something? Nibble on some Chocolate Chip Cookies? Eat frosting? In the end the Peanut decided for me. She ripped open the bag of Mini Extreme Chocolate Cookies… It was decided. Mini-cookies.
Tasting Notes for Pamela’s SimpleBites Mini Cookies
I took the three varieties to-go in a baggie to the movies with my Taste Taster. I wanted him to try them because he loves cookies, especially chocolate ones. The following is MY review of the cookies, then it’s his turn.
Chocolate Chip
Chips Ahoy beware! There is a mini version of you that is up and coming in the GF/DF world and it will take over the cookie world! How did Pamela’s capture the flavor, texture, and quality of a Chips Ahoy cookie- without the gluten, dairy, trans fat, and long list of unnatural ingredients? Well, they did it! If you are longing for that same taste (admit it- you love it.) in a mini cookie run and buy these! It was incredible, I think that they tasted better than a Chips Ahoy. There were just the right amount of chocolate chips, and the cookie part was sweet and flavorful.
Extreme Chocolate (DISCONTINUED)
Like the chocolate part of an Oreo. This was my favorite cookie! It was bite sized which may or may not be a good thing. If you are an Oreo fan, your bag of cookies will not last long. The cookie wasn’t soft or chewy but it wasn’t too hard and crunchy either. I loved it. On the back of the bag there was a recipe idea to use the cookies as a cookie pie crust. I’m getting ideas for an “ice cream pie”… Extreme Chocolate cookie crust, Soy Delicious Mocha Almond Fudge, and melted Enjoy life chocolate chips on top. Freeze. Then enter heaven.
Ginger Snapz (DISCONTINUED)
The Peanut’s favorite. She loves Ginger Snaps and had eaten half the bag. I would discourage this usually, but then I would end up eating them all myself. I would have to change the blog theme to “How to Eat Cookies and Stay Skinny”. The ginger snaps again are amazing. These were crunchy and sweet and spicy all at the same time. Pamela’s has the sweet molasses flavor nailed along with the spicy ginger flavor. Like a crunchy gingerbread man!
Another recipe idea for Thanksgiving is to make a pumpkin pie with these cookies for a crust… oh YUM!
So my Taste Tester’s review of the cookies was, “These cookies are freakin’ good”. He had NO IDEA they were dairy and gluten free. In fact, after he ate ALL of them, he then asked me, “So what’s the deal with these cookies? Are they like healthy or something?” I respond, “they are wheat and dairy free.” “GET outta here! No way!” “Yes” “WOW! Those were some awesome cookies.” My Taste Tester is not food-allergic, but he certainly loves a good cookie!
