Country Crock Plant Butter Tubs Help Spread More Dairy-Free Options

    0
By Alisa Fleming on May 16, 2019 Dairy-Free Butter Reviews (Spreads, Sticks & Oils), Product Reviews

Updated August 2023! It’s wonderful to see a widely distributed brand come out with dairy-free options, and Country Crock released several of them! They launched plant-based buttery sticks and plant-based buttery spread tubs, which are each currently available in two varieties. In this post, I’m covering the Country Crock Plant Butter Tubs in detail, but you can read about and rate the sticks on this other post.

Country Crock Plant Butter Tubs in Two Dairy-Free Varieties

At first, I assumed that Country Crock’s Plant Butter Sticks were the best option for baking. But they state that Country Crock Plant Butter Tubs are “excellent for cooking, baking, and spreading” too. However, these product lines do have different formulas. The tubs contain soy oil, while the sticks do not, and the tubs are made with faba bean protein instead of pea protein, like the sticks. So I suspect your preference will come down to taste or dietary need, rather than the packaging.

The two tubs, or “buttery spreads” as I like to call them, are almost identical. But one has a splash of avocado oil, and the other olive oil.

I use the olive oil variety, and it tastes the same as butter in my opinion. I am pretty eager to try the other varieties!

    Lacking buttery flavor

I felt that both of the tub varieties lacked a buttery flavor. When melted and poured over popcorn, the kernels became oily and tasteless.

Good, but doesn't taste like butter

I like the olive oil version in the tub, but it certainly doesn’t taste like butter. Anyone who says otherwise is not being honest. It has a great texture and melts like butter on toast, but just doesn’t have the same taste.

Dee-lish!! Recently cut wayyyy back on dairy and have tried another brand of avocado oil in a tub, which is very good, but this new almond oil one…wow!! I am a butter lover, but this almond oil spread (bought the sticks) is like putting real butter on toast and on veggies. I’m beyond impressed!

I'm a butter addict and I love it

I’m not fully vegan, but I’m definitely trying to get there. I am super addicted to butter so I was skeptical, but it’s definitely almost as good. I’d say it’s about 90% the same taste, and the slight difference is not off putting, it’s actually good and just barely noticeable. I’m thoroughly impressed and want to try every one now (the one I have is the olive oil spread)

I’m excited to try the sticks and make pie. Probably with the Almond version. If that turns out well, I’m going to completely stop using butter! Yay.
