Two genius guys created these little gems, and we savored every sweet morsel of the soft, chewy, and almost wholesome vegan varieties. I hesitate to call them healthy, but they are definitely a "less guilty" dessert with plenty of satisfaction.

Do the words soft, chewy, and tender describe your ideal cookie? Me too, which is why I quickly fell for the vegan varieties of A Couple Smart Cookies.

A Couple Smart Cookies - Gluten-Free and Vegan Fudge2

A Couple Smart Cookies does make a few flavors with butter, but I’m hoping that they switch every selection to dairy-free when their three vegan flavors soar in sales, leaving the buttery bites in their wholesome rice flour dust.

Yes, I said rice flour. The entire A Couple Smart Cookies line-up is gluten-free (according to the A Couple Smart Cookies website, they are certified to below 5ppm gluten by the University of Nebraska FARRP), but I’m not, and I still crave those dairy-free gems:

A Couple Smart Cookies - Peanut Butter ♥'s Chocolate Chip (shown), Pumpkin Dates Cherry, Fudge²

Peanut Butter ♥’s Chocolate Chip – I definitely heart these. Each tender bite bursts with intense peanut butter flavor and very generous amounts of mini chocolate chips. The sweetness is perfect: dessert-like but not too sugary.

Pumpkin Dates Cherry – I just love it when the scent of a baked good is as delightful as the taste. The warmth of pumpkin and spice nearly assaulted my senses, but in a good way. The bites of ginger and cherry added delicious contrast. I shared these with a friend and while she liked them, she only had a few. That’s okay, more for me.

Fudge² – This flavor is so, so, so tasty!!! Sweet and fudgy, the date base goes barely noticed thanks to the rich cocoa and ample amount of mini chocolate chips. And I wasn’t the only one to become obsessed with these. My husband cursed me for opening them as he saved my waistline from 75% of the package!

Note that A Couple Smart Cookies are on the wholesome side, but I would still classify them as a dessert rather than a healthy snack. Let’s say they are “less guilty”, if you will, and a touch earthy in taste. They also weigh in at just 100 calories, 4 grams of fat, and 8 grams of sugar for 3 little cookies. Which is great, if you can stop eating them.

Back on the texture, all three vegan varieties of A Couple Smart Cookies have a similar soft and chewy bite. I know that I shouldn’t compare, but if you like Enjoy Life cookies, then these little gems will be right up your alley. They have the same wonderful consistency and partially date-sweetened goodness, but with flavors that are a little more exciting and lively.

Dietary Notes: By ingredients, A Couple Smart Cookies (vegan varieties only) are dairy-free / non-dairy, egg-free, gluten-free, nut-free, peanut-free, soy-free, vegan, and vegetarian. Though they do have allergen disclaimers for shared equipment. Nonetheless, check with the company on their manufacturing processes for all varieties if potential allergen cross-contamination is an issue for you. Processes and labeling are subject to change at any time for any company / product.
