Many people don’t realize that Daiya Foods came out with a second line of dairy-free cheese shreds a few years ago. Don’t worry, their classic shreds are still available. They met with too much backlash when they underwent formula changes previously, so they decided to keep those around and leave them as is. But Daiya Cutting Board Shreds are now the core collection, both in stores and at restaurants. And Daiya has recently developed two new varieties: Dairy-Free Parmesan and Mexican 4-Cheeze.
Note: The packaging of the two dairy-free cheese shred lines is very similar. But the Cutting Board Shreds have a more colorful front label and specifically state “Cutting Board Collection” on the front.
Daiya Cutting Board Shreds add Dairy-Free Parmesan and Mexican 4-Cheeze
We tried Daiya Cutting Board Shreds and were impressed with the “melt.” They get quite ooey and gooey atop nachos, pasta, pizza, and more, but were a little sticky too. They reformulated in early 2020, and some of the stickiness seems to be gone. The ingredients below reflect the new formula.
The flavor seemed on par with their Classic Shreds for us. Both tasted good, in small doses. We found that using a light hand when sprinkling added enough cheesy flavor without overwhelming the dish. But tell us what you think! Once you’ve tried them, leave your own rating and review below.
Parmesan Style
Ingredients: filtered water, tapioca flour, coconut oil, expeller pressed: canola and/or safflower oil, chickpea protein, salt, vegan natural flavors, tricalcium phosphate, lactic acid (vegan), yeast extract, fruit and/or vegetable juice color, konjac flour, xanthan gum, nutritional yeast.*

Additional Allergen Notes*
Some Daiya products are made in a shared facility with dairy-containing products. But their shreds are reportedly made in their own dairy-free, allergy-friendly facility. They also test for the presence of gluten. The new formula (updated in 2020 and shown above) does contain chickpea protein. Some people with peanut allergies have cross-reactivity with other legumes. Always consult a physician regarding food allergy concerns.

Fabulous
This is the only non dairy cheese I’ve found that melts, tastes like cheese, and doesn’t make me react.
Good but a little sticky and hard to find
My husband and I really enjoyed these shreds. We thought the flavors were great and they really did melt! My only complaint was that it is very sticky. And if you use a lot, it can overwhelm. Use a light hand when sprinkling it on for the first time. It’s also hard to find. Most stores in my area carry the classic Daiya shreds, but the Cutting Board ones aren’t usually available.

I have tried all of their products and I LOVE them. They have opened up a whole new menu for me and my family. There were so many things that I could never have but now I can. It even taste good enough that my non-allergy, cheese eating family members will eat what I cook with Diaya. LOVE it.
