Don’t worry, Daiya Dairy-Free Cheese Slices are still around! But they have an all new formula using oat cream and age-old fermentation methods. Get information on the new versions here.
Yes, for the umpteenth time, Daiya has reformulated one of their cheesy products! Honestly, we’ve had trouble keeping up with all of their ingredient changes over the years, but do admire their continuous improvement efforts. Their scientific chefs are never quite content. Which is why Daiya Dairy-Free Cheese Slices now have a new look, new shape, and, according to Daiya, improved taste.
Daiya Dairy-Free Cheese Slices Square Up with New Formula
I actually kind of liked the round slices, which fit perfectly on bagels, English muffins and small tortillas (mini quesadillas!). But Daiya has gone with tradition, and added four corners for traditional sandwich fans. They’ve also tweaked their recipe to create a reportedly smoother, and creamier texture.
But you be the judge! Leave your own unbiased rating and review below once you buy and try the latest reincarnation of Daiya Dairy-Free Cheese Slices.

Yum!
I just found Daiya and decided to try since my celiac/IBS decided dairy would be deadly for my intestines. Giving up cheese has been next to impossible because…cheese! The shreds melt to a nice stretchy consistency and I ate the American and Gouda on a cold sandwich and they tasted authentic and not chewy or rubbery. Before going GF, I used to play around with vegan cheeses and they were truly awful but I thought they were healthy. Daiya is really good and has not flared my very sensitive intestines. 5 stars!
Improved Recipe
Melts, more flexible/ not stiff, it’s so good.
Good taste BAD packaging
Use to love buying the cheddar “cheese” until they changed packaging. Now i throw more away than i eat, because it provides no protection for product. First of all slices are almost always broken – secondly it starts drying out after the second day. Have photos.
Was awesome until American flavor changed
I LOVED the original round cheese formula and would rate it a 5 out of 5! The taste was much much better before it was changed to the new formula.
Miss the old cheese and packacking
The taste of the new cheddar and mozzarella is still the same to me but I miss the resealable package. Now I need to put the slices into a container which is inconvenient. Also, the slices stick together more and are harder to get apart without damaging. We don’t like the change!
Yes, change it back!
I’ve bought the cheddar slices for year. New squares slices (used to be round) taste a bit more bland, but the real problem for me is the consistency.
I’m on my fourth package of the new “slices”, and the slices don’t peel off and separate. One big gummy block.
They year and break off into unusable pieces and scraps. New formulation is horrible, and I will be looking for a different product.
Best non-dairy cheese ever
We live in a non-dairy household due to our daughter having a life threatening dairy allergy.(so severe that breathing Dorito dust can cause her to go into anaphylactic shock). She is 21 now but always want our home to be safe for her. 21 years ago, there were hardly any dairy free foods that were edible – then came Daiya! And they keep getting better and better, the American cheese slices are the best yet. We have to drive about 50 miles to get the products but well worth it, thank you Daiya!
New cheddar is Daiya's New Coke (that's not a good thing)
I have been enjoying Daiya’s cheezes for several years. While the melting behavior did leave something to be desired, they had the flavors nailed – and should have put that hammer down. Cheddar, provolone, and mozzarella WERE all good. Have not had new mozz. Round or square irrelevant to me.
The change to provolone flavor is moderate, edible but slightly worse. But the cheddar drops from 5 stars to 2. Somewhat bitter, and off the mark. Bring back Classic Cheddar!
Change it back!
Daiya used to be the one good tasting dairy free cheese i could eat. The new flavor tastes wrong and I’m super disappointed and can’t eat it any more.
Taste like the real thing if not better. 👍
I have so far tasted the cheddar and mozzarella. So so good. Can’t tell if it’s plant based. Been having them daily. It’s Christmas 😁 right.
