Traditional Breakfast Burrito is not good
I tried the traditional breakfast burrito made according to microwave instructions and it was inedible. The tortilla is gummy or hard, and the insides are not discernible from the tortilla in texture/flavor. I could not eat it. I want Daiya to succeed and like some of their other products, but this one is a HARD PASS.
Better than the reviews I’ve seen
I tried the Tex mex for quick dinner on a late work night and thought it was quite good….good enough to buy again. I microwaved it partially and then transferred it to a pan to fry it with a little olive oil. I definitely wouldn’t eat it straight out of the microwave. It came out crispy and perfect. It definitely splits open and is very messy so I was only able to crisp up one side but that was enough.
Rice flour tortillas are an affront to mankind
A minute after I removed it from the microwave, the rice flour tortilla had congealed into a hard, tasteless, plastic-like substance. I’m not gluten-free and didn’t notice the subtle gluten-free sign on the packaging…. but RICE flour? Are they insane? Why not use CORN flour?
Insides were also pretty tasteless and fake cheese wasn’t moist enough to penetrate that tortilla. I’ll stick to Amy’s vegan black bean burrito.
Just horrible
Tortilla is the most disgusting part of the burrito. Its slimey, wet, and weird. it puffs open and the insides of the burrito explodes. Insides arent much better.
Awful
I was excited to find these burritos because I enjoy other Daiya products, but oh my, they are seriously the worst frozen burritos I have ever tasted. The flavors are overpowered by some nasty taste I can only describe as “chemical”, imparted by the tortilla that seems linger in the back of my throat. By the last bite of each burrito I was seriously on the verge of gagging, they are _that_ bad. At this price point there are much, much better options. Daiya, you can do better!
In need of improvement.
My friend and I each had a different flavor, which we were excited for, as vegans. The tortillas ended up crunchy on the outside but soft and gummy on the inside. I finished the burrito over 10 minutes ago and it’s still stuck in my teeth. I look forward to improvements.
GOOD and QUICK
My options for food are very limited and I was esctatic to try these! I have enjoyed the three I have tried and look forward to trying the Santiago and the breakfast ones when they become available. I do not mind the tortilla seeing as I haven’t been able to find any without my allergies. I cook in the microwave as directed and then add to a heated skillet with olive oil rotating until crispy on all sides.
Fast and Delicious
I just tried the daiya Santiago frozen burrito. It was very flavorful and delicious . I enjoyed every bite except the tortilla was a little bland. I wrapped the tortilla in a paper towel when I microwaved it and it came out crispy. Very convenient and much better then similar vegan/veg options. I will def be trying the other flavors.
Not great
Tried the Tex-Mex and the Tuscan. The filling was tasty on both but the tortilla was tough and very thick. Too bad they can’t just supply the filling as a side dish. It would be a winner.
Not Ready for Prime Time
I’ve tried the four original versions of these burritos and unfortunately, I really didn’t like any of them at all. They’re very bland compared to the bold flavors they promise, but what really ruins the entire experience is the gluten-free tortilla. It’s really gummy if not downright gluey after being reheated from frozen. Perhaps you’d get better results baking or pan-frying them, but let’s be honest: Who would do anything but microwave a frozen burrito?
