It’s always sad when a long time food company fades away, but Dassant Baking Mixes are no more. See our Dairy-Free Baking Mix Reviews for more options.
All but one or two of the Dassant Baking Mixes are made without dairy ingredients, but I sampled the one that started it all, their Classic Beer Bread Mix. With extremely simple ingredients (just flour, sugar, leavener, and salt), I wasn’t sure how this basic beer bread mix could turn into something fabulous. But sometimes, the best baked goods are the least complex.
Since I didn’t have any beer on hand, I used Reed’s Ginger Ale. It seemed like a good seasonal selection, and I do love ginger. That was the only ingredient addition required – no eggs or other liquids! The end result was ridiculously delicious. The bread cooked up perfectly and in the exact time specified. The outside had a wonderful crust, and the inside was a spot-on tender quick bread with a pleasantly sweet flavor. It was so hard to stop at just one slice!
Still, I’m not a baking mix gal myself – forever addicted to whipping things up from scratch. But, I think the Dassant mixes would make an excellent gift, and are perfect for those who prefer a little convenience. Beyond the Classic Beer Bread Mix, Dassant offers several cake mixes, quick bread mixes, and even a truffle brownie mix that are made without dairy ingredients (see allergy note below).
Dietary Notes: By ingredients, the classic beer bread mix (and some of their other mixes) is Vegan, Vegetarian, Dairy-Free, Egg-Free, Nut-Free, Soy-Free, and Peanut-Free. However, they do note right on the package that the mixes are made on shared equipment with top allergens, so they are probably not suitable for those with highly sensitive food allergies. Alwasy read the label and check with the company on their manufacturing processes for all varieties if potential allergen cross-contamination is an issue for you. Processes and labeling are subject to change at any time for any company / product. Also, strict vegans may need to verify the source of the sugar used in this product.

I really like finding new gluten free products.
Unfortunately, these mixes aren’t gluten-free Sharon. There are several DF/GF options here – http://www.godairyfree.org/dairy-free-product-reviews/dairy-freebaking-mix-reviews
We had been buying Dassant beer bread mix for over a decade, but I now think that they may be out of business. The email address fails, the phone number for Northwest Specialty Baking Mixes is disconnected, and Amazon stopped stocking their products in late 2013. Is anyone still able to find this product?
Thanks!
Hi Craig, sorry for my delay – I’m looking into it. What is odd is that their website is still fully functional without any note, and they launched a whole new line in 2013, right before they seem to have vanished! I’ll update when I found out.
