Dear Coco Hot Chocolate Spoons (DISCONTINUED)

    1
By Alisa Fleming on November 5, 2014 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

Unfortunately, Dear Coco went out of business. See our Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate Guide for options that are currently on the market. Or you can make your own Dairy-Free Hot Chocolate Cubes – it’s easy!

I must say, I think this is the year of dairy-free hot chocolate. From superfood cocoa to pure melted delights to kid-friendly mixes, with Dear Coco Hot Chocolate Spoons falling somewhere in the middle of this decadent array.

Dear Coco Hot Chocolate Spoons have just enough artisan appeal while still catering to comfort cravings – they are a unique all-in-one combination of gourmet grown-up indulgence and sweet childhood memories. Little eco-friendly wooden spoons (they are sustainable, biodegradable and compostable) are coated in dark chocolate ganache, topped with vegan marshmallow, and finally dipped in premium tempered Belgian dark chocolate.

The end result is a luxurious hot chocolate that has a perfect marshmallow finish, without being over sugared.

My only complaints are that the spoons are a little short – you can’t stir any chocolate that falls to the bottom of a narrow standard or larger mug – and you have to exercise just a little patience. It’s important to get the water or milk alternative quite hot, but not boiling, and stir, stir stir, until the chocolate finally breaks away and dissolves. Worth it.

The flavors of Dear Coco Hot Chocolate Spoons include German Gingersnap (warm with just the perfect hint of spice), Polar Peppermint (you simply can’t go wrong with this flavor combination), Belgian Double Chocolate (utterly indulgent and essential for cacao purists). My favorite was the Gingersnap, I’m a sucker for anything “spice”, but all were beyond delicious.

Other Dear Coco products that I’ve reviewed to date include truffles (in an amazing assortment of flavors), toffee chocolate bars (yes, a layer of toffee, chocolate, and more), and chocolate tiles (pictured above – I horded the entire salts of the earth collection for myself!). Everything they make is gift-worthy and an excellent way to show others just how delicious dairy-free can be – yes, Dear Coco is a kosher pareve chocolatier!
