It should be noted that I do love hot tea, and who couldn’t go for a nice mug of hot cocoa? However, I am not a fan of coffee, not in the least bit. In fact, beyond a minor tasting sip, that classic cuppa joe has never officially crossed my lips. You can try to dress it up as a mocha, but the bitter notes are still too intense for my palate. Yet, Cabaret is one brew I would graciously accept any morning.
This soothing beverage is a unique blend that exudes hints of hot chocolate, coffee, and tea, but in a more subdued environment that solely consists of brewed whole cocoa beans and organic evaporated cane juice (just a touch). With the texture and appearance of a dark maple syrup, the overall flavor has that distinct brewed coffee vibe, but without the harsh taste. It is just lightly sweet for a perfect morning wake up call.

The directions call for mixing one teaspoon of the concentrate with ½ cup of hot water; this ratio really is perfect … but, a half a cup? Who are they talking to? I easily down two giant mugs of tea before noon, and two more in the afternoon. A half a cup is like the tip of the iceberg for my daily hot beverage consumption. While the small jar makes quite a few servings, this grown-up version of hot chocolate could easily get pricey with my habits and since it is rather addictive.
That said, for an afternoon “indulgence” or for a gift to your favorite hot beverage fan, Cabaret is perfect! I love that it satisfies (at least momentarily) both my chocolate and sweets cravings, with just 48 calories, 8g of sugar, and 0g of fat per cup!
