Earth Balance Kettle Chips: Exciting Dairy-Free Flavors (DISCONTINUED)

By Alisa Fleming on July 4, 2014 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

I’m not a big chip eater, but I was sad when Earth Balance Kettle Chips were discontinued – they were so good! See our Dairy-Free Snack Reviews for munchies that are still on the market.

Chips may not sound like the ideal focus a dazzling dairy-free review, but when we’re talking about Earth Balance Kettle Chips in Sea Salt, Vegan Cheddar, and Vegan Sour Cream and Onion, I can bet that some ears will perk up.

Starting with the simpleton of the bunch, Sea Salt, I’m happy to report that Earth Balance did their kettle chip research. Thin and light yet insanely crispy, these are the perfect little snack in their own right. The ingredients include just potatoes, sunflower oil, and salt in the perfect balance! But why stop with just salt?

Earth Balance Kettle Chips - Vegan Sour Cream and Onion

We moved on to the Vegan Sour Cream and Onion, which looked amazing, and had that incredible audible crunch and pure potato flavor, but from there, they fell a little flat. As one tester said, “They taste like chips with Lipton onion soup mix”. We all agreed, something was lacking … the excitement, the zest, yes … the sour cream tang. A little tweak and I think they’ve got it. Until then, we’ll enjoy these Earth Balance Kettle Chips with dairy-free dip.

Fortunately, it seems we had saved the best for last as Vegan Cheddar rocked our taste buds. They offered a flavor rush that wasn’t overpowering, nor did it smack of anything artificial. It was all just pure cheesy deliciousness with the perfect touch of salt.

We loved the perfect kettle chip crunch and wonderfully simple ingredients of the Sea Salt. The Vegan Cheddar further dazzled our taste buds with the perfect cheesy punch. Slightly out of budget for our everyday snacking, but well worth the occasional road trip splurge.

That is too funny! I just bought both the vegan Cheddar and the vegan Sour cream and onion last week: they are so good, even the dairy eaters in the house can get enough of them! So nice to see New options that taste as good as the originals!

I’ve tried a few of the flavors and was surprised by how flavorful and good they were!

Seriously! I was surprised, too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Elizabeth.
