A few years ago, we posted about the legendary FoMu Ice Cream Shop. But it wasn’t until recently that I sampled some flavors for myself. FoMu Ice Cream can be found in restaurants and shops in New England, but they also ship pints direct to consumers throughout the U.S.
FoMu is a completely dairy-free and vegan establishment that hand-crafts their ice cream with a base of coconut milk and natural ingredients. However, I definitely wouldn’t classify it as health food.
FoMu Ice Cream comes in an array of insanely creative flavors and is a true indulgence. Because of the specialty nature, it is also a bit pricey. But I think it is a truly fun treat to send to someone (or yourself!) as a special gift. FoMu makes sure to offer unique flavor experiences that you simply can’t buy in stores.
The images were provided by FoMu Ice Cream, and are not all of the flavors we sampled. Since their flavors rotate, we didn’t take time to take pictures of the specific flavors we taste-tested. I also felt that these photos provided an accurate representation of the look and creaminess of the pints we sampled.
Tasting Notes for FoMu Ice Cream
We sampled two signature flavors, which are available often, and two seasonal flavors. For each one, I was amazed that they were coconut-based. They’re packed with so many sweet and rich flavors that I couldn’t even detect a hint of coconut!
Chocolate Cookie Dough (Signature Flavor) – The malted milky chocolate ice cream is filled with very soft, smooth cookie dough that blends in seamlessly. There were no hard cookie dough chunks to be found! I also enjoyed the abundant mini chocolate chips throughout.
Avocado (Signature Flavor) – This was an interesting flavor. I didn’t look at the packaging first, and couldn’t guess what it was. I found it smooth, creamy, decadent, and intriguing. However, it was a little “off” for me and definitely didn’t rank as a favorite.
Pumpkin Caramel (Seasonal Flavor) – This pint was like sweet, warm, fall bliss. It had an earthy, yet indulgent vibe that was unique and fulfilling. Each incredibly creamy bite waffled between intense pumpkin, caramel, and then both together.
Apple Cider Donut (Seasonal Flavor) – Wow – talk about a flavor rush! The ice cream has a sweet, bright apple pie flavor with tons of actual donut bites throughout. It creates a full dessert experience with cakey and creamy textures throughout.
Salted Caramel (Signature Flavor) – I haven’t tried this one, but Leah did, and she said it “tastes like a Samoa Girl Scout Cookie.”

Imaginative with a bold taste and creamy decadence
The flavors are imaginative and fully deliver in bold taste and creamy decadence. Their selection changes often, based on ingredient availability, the seasons, and their creative whim. Even the signature flavors rotate in and out, so be sure to grab your favorite when you spot it. As you may have noticed, these pints are on the high end and cold pack shipping doesn’t come cheap. But I do recommend them if you live locally or are looking for a delicious, special delivery gift. Read my full post for more details and tasting notes …

Wow–those are such cool flavors you don’t often get in dairy-free products. Love it! Don’t think I’d like the avocado one either though!
Haha, yeah – I have used some avocado in homemade ice cream, but as the central focus, it didn’t quite win us over 🙂
The flavors are so unique for ice cream. A samoa cookie flavor in a gluten free, dairy free ice cream? Sounds incredible!
Yes, yes it does!
Your description of each flavor made me feel like I was actually tasting it. Way to reel me in Alisa ?
I do my best 🙂
Oh my goodness, these look and sound amazing. Every singl flavor sounds enticing and I’m picky! Come to my city, please FoMu!
I’d so love that to in my local area! But for now, they ship & have an ice cream delivery club 🙂
I am actually intrigued by the avocado flavor… when I was in college, I used to make this sweet avocado pudding… I wonder if it is similar… 🙂
I’m betting it is!
Lavender and Avocado?! THat sounds like a dream.
I call dibs on the pumpkin or salted caramel! They look and sound incredible!
It’s pretty awesome!
Fomu ice cream looks super creamy! I wish they’d make more flavors gluten-free.
Definitely super-creamy. I know what you mean Chrystal. It was a bummer not being able to share more flavors with my husband – okay, maybe just a bummer for him 🙂
