Forager Project Dairy-Free Sour Cream is Tops for Probiotics

    0
By Alisa Fleming on October 10, 2019 Dairy-Free Cream Reviews (Sour, Whipped & More), Product Reviews

Holiday and football parties are on the horizon, which means sour cream will be a staple on many menus. Luckily, Forager Project has launched a dairy-free sour cream that I think will please most picky consumers. Unlike other vegan sour cream alternatives, Forager Project Dairy-Free Sour Cream is cultured for a more authentic flavor, thicker consistency, and probiotic boost.

According to the company, this sour cream substitute can seamlessly cover every dip, potato, and Mexican food need. It’s reportedly rich, creamy, and tangy – just like the real deal. But you be the judge! Be sure to leave your own review and rating below when you try it.

Forager Dairy-Free Sour Cream Review and Info - cashew and coconut milk-based, cultured with probiotics, certified organic, vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free.

Forager Project Dairy-Free Sour Cream is Tops for Probiotics

They only offer one variety of organic dairy-free sour cream, but you really only need one, right? Here are the nutritional details, including the live and active cultures.

    Original Organic

Forager Dairy-Free Sour Cream Review and Info - cashew and coconut milk-based, cultured with probiotics, certified organic, vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free.Ingredients: coconut & cashewmilk (filtered water, coconut cream*, cashews*), tapioca starch*, sea salt, pectin, distilled vinegar*, lactic acid, locust bean gum*, tricalcium phosphate, agar, live active cultures (s. thermophilus, l. bulgaricus, l. acidophilus, bifidus, l. lactis, l. plantarum). *organic. Contains: coconut, cashews.*

    Forager Project Cashew Sourcing

A Go Dairy Free reader recently expressed concerns about human rights violations in the cashew industry. I’m not an expert on this topic, but Forager has addressed their cashew sourcing.

Cashews are one of Forager Project’s key ingredients, and the company searched far and wide to find cashews that meet its strict standards: organic, ethically sourced, and sustainably farmed. Sourcing from Vietnam, Forager Project works with small farming cooperatives who care deeply about their workers and who produce the highest quality of cashews available

    not good

This stuff has a weird, runny yogurt consistency and smells just like plain coconut yogurt. It is def more of a yogurt texture than sour cream – and I don’t want that on my nachos, burritos, chili, etc. If someone would have had me try this, not knowing what it is, I would 150% have said it’s yogurt. Just, really bland yogurt. I’ll stick to my trusty Tofutti sour cream.

    Strong coconut taste

Awful! Purchased for burritos and all everyone said was this tastes like you added coconut to the burritos. Might be good with a sweet potato or a meal where coconut is part of the flavor profile. Otherwise, I do not recommend. Tofutti makes a great dairy free sour cream. We’re going back to that!

I can’t read the expiration date clearly though. Please tell me approximate expiration timeline, after purchase. Thanks

    Response from Go Dairy Free

You would need to contact the company and provide them with the lot number on the container. There isn’t a set timeline from purchase.

    Doesn’t taste of much

This stuff is white and that’s where any resemblance to sour cream ends. No flavor, very thick and GLoppy. If you’re dairy free this is that, but frankly, doing without is more attractive.

    Creamy Sour Cream Replacement!

I love that fact that this product is lower in fat than so many others on the market. I feel like I can enjoy my tacos and nachos SO much more with Forager’s Sour Cream. I like that it is a bit looser than traditional sour cream. The looser texture makes for less waste and no over-powering taste from it being globbed onto your food.

I’m not sure what they’re thinking with this one. Hard to taste anything besides coconut which really limits what you can use it with. Ended up throwing it away due to expiration.

I think this is a great option for making dips or dressings. The texture is probably not as thick as I’d like and maybe lacks a little tang but putting a little bit of vinegar in the mix helps that. For something vegan, organic, without oil and crazy additives this is more than OK!

    Sweeter than regular sour cream

I use this daily when I make my dill dip and it is a little sweeter than regular sour cream and has a different texture but does the job when it comes to making my dill dip that I eat every day

Not a bad taste but the wrong texture

Unfortunately, this non-dairy sour cream has a texture that is more like yogurt…if that. It’s a bit slimy, making it necessary to mix it with something else to make it palatable (salsa, chili, soup) and won’t stay on a cracker or carrot stick easily on it’s own. Doesn’t quite have the tangy taste or sour cream, either. Might work well as an ingredient of a dip.
