When Jessy Gartenstein was 13, she was diagnosed with celiac disease and dairy sensitivity. Since then she has been on a mission to satisfy her sweet tooth without upsetting her stomach. But the ice cream alternatives she found were always packed with refined sugar, gums and artificial ingredients. So she eventually teamed up with Erik Nadeau, a fellow undergrad at University of Chicago, to bring her nice cream dreams to life. And at the age of 23, the pair launched Frönen non-dairy ice cream!
Frönen Expands Nice Cream Line with 2 More Dairy-Free Flavors
When Frönen first launched in mid-2019, they rolled out five classic flavors. Each variety was banana-based and sweetened with honey or maple syrup. Now they have added two more flavors, and are venturing deeper into indulgence.
The new Mint Chip has their classic formula, but they’ve added pure mint extract and cacao nibs, bringing the ingredient count up to six – an all-time high for Frönen. The other new flavor, Peanut Butter Fudge, shuns fruit altogether. This new banana-free formula is richer than the others, and boasts a base of pure peanut butter and coconut cream. See below for the ingredient lists of each flavor and full product information.
Frönen Dairy-Free Ice Cream Keeps it Nice with 6 Ingredients or Less

What Others Are Saying ...
Tastey and good
I love this stuff. I’ve tried chocolate, strawberry, and mint chip. The chocolate has a banana flavor in it which I LOVE. I’ve been waiting for this ice cream flavor my whole life. It’s fudgy and good. The strawberry tastes like summer. It’s so hard to find non dairy strawberry ice cream. And the mind chip is very minty but not toothpastey.
When I first got them home from the frozen walmart freezer they where quite stiff and I was unsure, but after being in my freezer they are now perfect in texture and I never want to eat anything else. If it’s unscoopable it’s because your freezer (or the store’s) was way too cold. I hate having to put ice cream on the counter to soften and I don’t have to with this after being in a normal temperature freezer.
Peanut Butter was a solid block
I wanted to love it, but the texture was so weird. It was totally un-scoopable, un-spoonable and stubbornly didn’t want to leave it’s container.
I ended up slicing off pieces with a knife! Not the ice cream experience I was looking for! And no, I don’t want to just use it in a smoothie, or to have to microwave it to get it to cooperate. I would just like a nice bowl of creamy cold deliciousness.
But anyway, it did taste good and I will definitely try the other flavors to see if the texture is better because I totally appreciate the simplicity of 4-5 ingredients.
Bought both the cinnamon and chocolate…cinnamon pint was nearly inedible, chocolate not far behind. Huge waste of nearly $8 each for me. Stayed in back of freezer for month until finally just threw them both away (nearly uneaten). Appreciate the small natural ingredient list (so a star for that)- but unfortunately taste, consistency, flavor, and mouth feel fell way flat. Not recommended-when there are tastier alternatives out there.
Response from Go Dairy Free
If you have issues with frozen dessert you buy (it happens!) salvage it by blending into smoothies. Usually it provides a good base, even if the ice cream itself isn’t to your taste. And it prevents the waste on expensive trials!
Mint chocolate chip
LOVE IT! My daughter has been looking for a GOOD vegan mint ice cream, she and I think it’s the best so far. If you don’t like super dark chocolate, you won’t like the chips, I Love it!! Plus, lower I’m sugar and fats. Also, don’t expect creamy, but SO GOOD!!
A New Favorite
Just tried this the peanut butter flavor for the first time and definitely exceeded my expectations! So smooth, lightweight and creamy. If you like peanut butter, this certainly gives you a full flavor taste! This could be my new go to treat!
THE BEST OF THE BEST
BEST FROZEN AND HEALTHY DESERT I HAVE EVER TASTED AND FREE OF ALL THE BAD ADDITIVES. THANK YOU FOR FINALLY MAKING A HEALTHY COOL TREAT !!!
Paleo and AMAZING taste and ingredients.
I am obsessed with this ice cream. The ingredients are the best and I do not feel bloated after eating it which is a first for me. The Chocolate is so rich and creamy. I also love the Peanut Butter. Top it with some fresh fruit and it’s like a sundae. 10/10.
Loved the strawberry one! Not too sweet, just perfect)
Don’t switch to maple, hate it!
Incredibly bad taste, consistency: mom will return it
My mom bought the strawberry frozen dessert as a dairy free alternative, eve tough my expectations were low it still was horrible, she hated it too, everyone hated it and will return it. The macros are considerably better than nearly all ice cream, so if you don’t care about the taste so much as the frozen dessert aspect go for it.
Chocolate is so rich and amazing
This is my favorite dessert and ice cream ever! It’s so creamy and delicious without making me feel sick. I usually have an upset tummy when eating other options. Thank you for creating this!
