It’s been a few years in discussions, but the founders of Fronen finally decided to shift from a banana-based nice cream to a rich and pure coconut cream base. Their goal has always been to create a dairy-free ice cream line that’s easy on the stomach and made with pure natural ingredients. The reformulation stays true to this mission, but brings more attention to the flavors and consistency.
Frönen Dairy-Free Ice Cream Keeps it Simple with a Big Reformulation
Every flavor of Frönen still features 7 ingredients or less, with no additives, sugar alcohols, or other funny business. It boasts a homemade vibe, with natural sweetness from honey or coconut sugar. And it’s sold in five classic, top-selling flavors.

2022 Fronen Product & Formula Changes
Fronen ditched the banana, letting coconut cream take center stage as their ice cream base. This did increase the calories, fat, and saturated fat in each serving. But, it helps to create a creamier, less fruity product, closer to traditional ice cream. They also discontinued their Banana Coconut, Cinnamon, and Peanut Butter Fudge flavors. All of the information above has been updated for the new formula.
Additional Allergen Notes*
According to the company, all of their products are manufactured on lines that process dairy and other tree nuts (besides coconut). Before and after each production run, the machinery is cleaned and then tested to ensure there is no allergen residue on it. After their ice cream is manufactured, it is also tested for allergens to ensure there is no cross contamination. That being said, they cannot guarantee there are no allergen particles in the air in the facility. If you are severely allergic, they recommend not eating their ice cream to be safe.

My new favorite ice cream is fronen
I bought the pints at Lassens and I’m in love. I highly recommend the vanilla. It’s really refreshing and not overly sweet.
Best company
I buy this ice cream at Walmart and it’s my favorite. I asked for coupons and the company is sending them to me. Thank you!!
Far behind
The chocolate flavor is not creamy at all and flavor-wise is nothing special. The label recommends waiting a bit and it will be creamy. It won’t be, not even with warm chocolate sauce drizzled over it. Besides, when I want ice cream, I don’t want to wait.
Delicious vanilla flavor
Best of the best. It is so much better without banana. I follow paleo and this is the healthiest compliant ice cream I could find.
Love the new recipes!
I love this brand, especially now that there is no banana taste. It’s so creamy. I am Paleo and this always hits the spot. The new chocolate in particular is my favorite.
Previous Review Update
I submitted a negative review a couple days ago due to a couple purchases where the containers were not full. This review is on customer service. Company leadership emailed me quickly with an explanation and apology and are sending me coupons for future purchases. I’m very impressed and plan to continue purchasing this brand of non-dairy ice cream.
Containers not full
I like the taste of this ice cream well enough although it is a bit too sweet. I like that it has only 5 natural ingredients. My low rating is primarily because the containers are only about 2/3 full…. the bottom is empty. It appears deceitful in that it seems to get frozen upside-down so it appears full when you first open the package.
ICY Not at all creamy
My tongue is killing me after having the Madagascar vanilla and mint chocolate chip coconut frozen desserts. They are the most hideous dairy free frozen “ice-cream” I’ve ever had. Coconut cream is high in fat and produces delicious creamy frozen desserts but apparently at Fronen they have no clue how to do it right. Another problem I have with the brand is some of the flavors are sweetened with honey. Why wouldn’t you make them vegan? You are using plant based products and then you sweeten with honey – makes no sense. Finally, I was serving myself and there was a huge void at the bottom of the tiny 1 pint container. The icy mixture collapsed into the void. It appears there was only 1-1/2 cups of product – not only is it painful to the tongue but you don’t get as much as you pay for. But maybe that is a blessing.
I will never make the mistake again of purchasing these again.
Caramel is amazing
The caramel flavor is incredible! I couldn’t tell it was dairy free! Bravo!
Great for my diet !
I have gut issues and this has been a great choice for me!! I never have stomach pain after eating this ice cream!
