Giddy Up and Go Granola: Organic, Gluten-Free, Vegan (DISCONTINUED)

By Alisa Fleming on July 23, 2014 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

Giddy Up and Go went out of business. For other options that are currently available, see our Dairy-Free Cereal & Granola Reviews.

I typically bake my own granola, but still find great pleasure in trialing out store-bought varieties, especially when they are as high-quality and delicious as Giddy Up and Go Granola.

The sizable chunks in Giddy Up and Go Granola are made with a base of organic and gluten-free oats and corn flakes, which I actually find to be a fun and tasty combination. Each batch is perfectly sweetened (with agave), yet surprisingly low in sugars: just 8 grams per 9/16 cup. Yes, the Giddy Up and Go Granola creators (Thoughtful Foods) are insanely precise with their nutrition facts!

Tasting Notes for Giddy Up and Go Granola

And though just over 1/2 cup doesn’t sound like a ton, it actually came out to a fair portion in my bowl. You could easily up the serving to 3/4 cup without too much calorie damage for breakfast. To note, each serving also has 4 grams each of fiber and protein! Not bad for a breakfast cereal.

And, at the time of this review, Giddy Up and Go Granola comes in two flavors…

Seriously Seedy is spiked with a plethora of organic seeds including flaxseed, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and pumpkin seeds.

Notoriously Nutty provides a meld of the oat-flake grains with organic walnuts, almonds, and pecans that pairs perfectly with unsweetened vanilla milk alternative.

Both Giddy Up and Go Granola options have warm notes of cinnamon and vanilla, the perfect pinch of salt to draw out the flavors, and a generous dousing of organic raisins. I enjoyed both varieties, but since I’m not a big seed fan, Notoriously Nutty was my top pick. It had that creamy, slightly sweeter essence that nuts offer over their more savory and slightly bitter seed friends. If I were to change anything, I would remove the raisins and add more of those delicious clusters. I like raisins, but found them unnecessary in this naturally delectable mix.

As a side note, I love that Thoughtful Food fills their 11-ounce Giddy Up and Go Granola bags right up! No waste in this packaging. They even offer an assortment of sizes – the regular retail (resealable) bag, single serve packages (great for lunchboxes!), and bulk bags. The pricing is a little much for everyday eats, but for the quality, taste and certifications, it’s certainly competitive.
