“Great Value” and “Allergen Free” aren’t terms we usually see in the same sentence. But Walmart is making the baking season more affordable for special diet households with their new store brand chocolate chips. They have launched in Dark, Semi-Sweet, AND White Chocolate Chips, all of which are made without any top allergens. In fact, their label boldly states “Free From Milk, Eggs, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Wheat, Soy, Fish, and Shellfish.” But see our Allergen Notes below for more details.

More Allergen Notes
There are some mixed messages from Walmart. Great Value Free From Baking Chips are labeled as “free from” in several places all over the package, implying they are allergy-friendly. But our friend Raechel from Deliciously Dairy Free contacted the manufacturer and was told, “they are produced on shared equipment and they would not recommend them for consumption by someone with an allergy.” I found this odd, so I followed up with Walmart corporate, and told them about this “unsafe” information from customer service. They researched and sent the following response:
I am reaching out to you regarding your media inquiry around for the new Great Value Baking Chips. Sorry for the inconvenience, the information that you received is incorrect. We have followed up with customer service to resolve and have also verified with the supplier that the product claims on the package are correct. This can be accredited to a Walmart spokesperson.

I love them
I love this chocolate, the problem is, I haven’t seen them in the store for a long time, Does wal mart not have them in their assortment anymore? No wal mart here or in other places close by have them anymore, anybody knows why not?
Response from Go Dairy Free
We have heard rumor that they are no longer available, but no official confirmation yet.
I think these have been discontinued
Haven’t been able to find these in stores in months. Has anyone else seen them? The experiment must be over?
Great value allegen free dark choc chip cookie recipe
Excellent. Finally an dairy-free egg-free cookie recipe I can serve to my family with pride. Even my husband approved these cookies. Thank you Walmart. Note – I needed to bake them 14 minutes.
The white ones were amazing
The white ones were so amazing I ate them out of the bag, in its entirety. So I didn’t actually cook with the white ones, about the semi sweet we’re amazing. And the price is nice
