The first time I tried some honey patties, my taste buds were a bit taken back. Unsweetened chocolate can be bitter, and quite contrasting to sweet honey. But when I bit into Honey Acres Honey Patties, I was immediately smitten. The chocolate wasn’t as bitter as I remembered, and creates this satisfying flavor as it melts into the pure honey filling.
Honey Acres Honey Patties are Treats for Dark Chocolate Purists
If you’ve ever had Heavenly Organics Honey Patties, these are similar, yet just different enough, and more affordable. I liked Heavenly Organics, but didn’t purchase them again after our initial review. But Honey Acres Honey Patties are quickly becoming my new go to afternoon treat. I honestly can’t tell you what makes them unique – the cacao they source, the honey they use, the ratios of the two, or maybe just that special touch in their Wisconsin facility. Whatever it is, it just works.
That said, this is a “grown up” sweet. The chocolate shell is 100% cacao with no sweetener whatsoever. But it’s contrasted by honey in the middle. You might be a little shocked at first, but then, you might become a little addicted, like me.
Mint
They hit the sweet spot with this flavor. Peppermint oil is strong, and can overpower, but these have a nice after dinner mint balance that tastes clean and simple.
Ingredients: pure honey, 100% dark chocolate liquor, peppermint oil.
Nutrition (per 3 patties): 110 calories, 5g fat, 21g carbs, 1g fiber, 18g sugars, 1g protein.*
Cocoa
I expected this to be my least favorite, but it turned out to be my top pick. They whipped just a little chocolate liquor into the honey, but not too much. It almost tastes sweeter, and has light cocoa influence that melds wonderfully with the contrasting unsweetened chocolate shell.
Ingredients: pure honey, 100% dark chocolate liquor.
Nutrition (per 3 patties): 110 calories, 5g fat, 21g carbs, 1g fiber, 18g sugars, 1g protein.*
Orange
To me, this was the “classic” flavor. The citrus is complementary and pleasant, but doesn’t take center stage.
Ingredients: pure honey, 100% dark chocolate liquor, orange oil.
Nutrition (per 3 patties): 110 calories, 5g fat, 21g carbs, 1g fiber, 18g sugars, 1g protein.*
Raspberry
I have no idea why, but this flavor immediately reminded me of cherry cordials!
Ingredients: pure honey, 100% dark chocolate liquor, raspberry flavor.
Nutrition (per 3 patties): 110 calories, 5g fat, 21g carbs, 1g fiber, 18g sugars, 1g protein.*
