Kit’s Organic Fruit + Seed Bars (DISCONTINUED)

    0
By Alisa Fleming on July 25, 2014 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

Clif Bar has discontinued Kit’s Organic Bars. See our Dairy-Free Protein, Energy & Snack Bar Reviews for other options.

Since their Fruit + Nut Bars have become an old-standby for road trips, I was curious how the newer Kit’s Organic Fruit + Seed Bars would compare.

Tasting Notes for Kit’s Organic Fruit + Seed Bars

In typical Kit’s Organic fashion, these are date-based bars without any added sweeteners or unwanted ingredients – literally just fruit, seeds, a pinch of salt, and a touch of rosemary extract as a natural preservative. To both mellow and compliment the dates, they add apple, which I think works very nicely. From there, the only other ingredients are the ones on the front of the package – i.e. cherries and pumpkin seeds in the Cherry + Pumpkin Seeds.

    Lemon Vanilla + Chia Seeds

This was my hands down favorite, and a Kit’s Organic bar that I would gladly buy again. It isn’t often that I taste a bar with so many chia seeds! Usually it is a dusting of chia powder or a little smattering, but this has crunchy chia seeds throughout, ground ones on top, and whole pumpkin seeds to boot. I love the mellow flavor combination of lemon, apple and vanilla, which is more sweet than tangy.

    Cherry + Pumpkin Seeds

Sliding into my second place spot, I found this Kit’s Organic flavor to be quite pleasant. Tony wasn’t a big fan, but I thought the cherries weren’t overly tangy and the pumpkin seeds complimented nicely.

    Apricot + Sesame Seeds

I loved the blend of dried apricots, apples and dates in this unique Kit’s Organic bar flavor. The sesame seeds added tons of textural interest (as you can see in the picture below), but they added a little bitterness that I found too harsh for my tastes.

    Coconut + Sesame Seeds

I really liked the subtle coconut flavor and touch of ginger; it flowed nicely with the mellow fruit flavors. Again, I loved crunchy all of those little sesame seeds, but preferred the neutral notes of the chia seeds. If you are a tahini fan, then this bar could be perfect for you.

The Facts on Kit’s Organic Fruit + Seed Bars

Certifications: Kit’s Organic Fruit + Seed Bars are certified organic. They are labeled as gluten-free, but I didn’t spot a certification.

Dietary Notes: By ingredients, the Kit’s Organic Fruit + Seed Bars are dairy-free / non-dairy, egg-free, gluten-free, nut-free, peanut-free, soy-free, added sugar-free, vegan and vegetarian, but see the packaging and contact the company for allergen and manufacturing “may contain” labeling.
