This dairy-free meal replacer beats out the dairy-filled competitors in the all-natural nutrition category and is gluten-free, vegan, and top eight allergen-free. I thoroughly enjoyed all three flavors, though we had mixed reviews on the consistency due to the rice protein.

Our review of Kate Farms Komplete Meal Replacement Shakes was a team effort. I (Alisa) took the photos and Sarah provided the tasting notes and write up below.

Kate Farms Komplete Ultimate Dairy-Free Meal Replacement Shakes

I’ve never understood how anyone could be too busy to eat breakfast. For me, skipping meals isn’t an option, no matter how busy. However I have now reached the stage of life where I am a meal forget-er, especially where breakfast is concerned. I plan to eat breakfast all morning and then suddenly I’m out the door with an empty stomach and my travel mug full of coffee inside on the windowsill where I forgot it. Again.

I recently had the chance to share Kate Farms’ Komplete Meal Replacement Shakes with my family, which might be the answer to my breakfast forgetfulness.

Kate Farms’ founders, Michelle and Richard Laver, are the parents of four children, including their daughter, Kate, who was born with cerebral palsy. Her parents wanted to give her a healthier, dairy-free option to the meal replacement shakes recommended by her doctor. On their website they write, “We developed our own meal replacement shake in the Laver kitchen one night with the help of a dear friend. We left out the sugar and dairy products and replaced them with all-natural vegan ingredients, creating the world’s first dairy-free, gluten-free and soy-free ready to drink meal replacement shake!….As a result, Kate Farms was born.”

I am not usually a meal substitute drinker, but I enjoyed all three flavors of Kate Farms’ dairy-free Komplete Meal Replacement Shakes: Cocoa Fudge, Vanilla Bliss, and Jav’a Latte. The Cocoa Fudge was rich and chocolatey. The Vanilla Bliss was my favorite—not too perfumey. And the Jav’a Latte was a perfect morning pick-me-up. Some in my family found the texture to be a bit “gritty” (most likely from the rice protein powder), but I didn’t mind the texture.

I have tried dairy-based meal replacement shakes in the past and found them to be too thick and sometimes indigestion-causing. The Komplete Meal Replacement Shakes are filling without being too heavy. They also were an enjoyable, quick breakfast to enjoy on the go. I think the Komplete Meal Replacement Shakes would be handy for travel, too, when allergic kids can’t always get all the nutrients they need.

In terms of nutrition, the shakes contain 21 “superfoods” (from green tea to camu camu!), 24 vegetables, 5 grams of fiber, 8 grams of plant-based fat, and 17 grams of protein (from rice protein, pea protein, chia seeds and quinoa flour). They are also fortified, and contain a hefty dose of calcium, vitamin D, B vitamins, magnesium, and much more.

  1. Can you put these in a feeding tube or do you have product for feeding tubes? No dairy, gluten free, corn oils free, soy free, and thinner than average drink. High calorie, low fat, and high protein. Looking and need all of the mentioned.

    Thank you!

HI Alisa, It’s been a couple years since you reviewed the Kcomplete meal replacement. I’m wanting to know if you have any new recommendations. I’m looking for organic high protein low carb low sugar and low fat. Preferably to be yummy tasting. In an earlier reply you had suggested a product from the Uk called Novadetox. Do you still suggest that or have you come across something better? I’m wanting the drink to be more of a snack for mid afternoon before dinner, to stave away from eating a bag of chips. Any suggestions?/

  3. Finally a protein drink I can recommend. There are so many individuals suffering from metabolic syndrome and most if not all other drinks make if worse. Additionally Komplete is very low in sodium and potassium comparatively. I can recommend this in so many cases; kidney, liver, thyroid, malabsorption, fibro, etc.

  4. I am looking for a shake that has a least 20g of protein, less than 15g of carbs, and less than 7g fat. Must be milk, gluten, and egg free.

  5. Love these shakes! Usually I’m hungry 1hr after having some of these other shakes and I’m lactose intolerant so whey protein is out of the question. I have one of these for lunch and I am good to go no sugar crashes or feeling ravenous an hour later very satisfying and I’m getting complete nutrition. I love love love them!

  6. Komplete Ultimate Shakes are the best product of its kind I’ve come across. However, there are a couple downsides to these drinks. Lots of sugar and high price. The sugar is allegedly sourced from agave but the jury s out on whether that is any better than, say, cane sugar. The price is way up there. It retails for $4.69 where I am.

  7. I’ve been struggling to keep my weight up after a recent silent acid reflux diagnosis. My doctor wants me eating six low-fat meals per day. These will make a great quick and easy replacement for one of those meals!

[p.s. I never miss breakfast, currently, it’s a 96% fat free hamburger each morning!]
