Love Grown Foods Power O’s Cereal is Like Cheerios, with Beans

    29
By Alisa Fleming on July 14, 2014 Dairy-Free Cereal & Granola Reviews, Product Reviews

Those perfect little cereal pieces were long overdue for a more nutritious upgrade. They are adored from infancy on, as finger food, in snack recipes, and of course, for breakfast. And sure, they were already “whole grain”, but Love Grown Foods has taken another approach, making their Power O’s Cereal with beans!

Each crunchy bite of Power O’s Cereal contains a base of navy beans, lentils, garbanzo bean, and brown rice flour, with just a smattering of additional all-natural ingredients. They are wholesome, and pretty darn tasty, too! In fact, I really couldn’t detect even the slightest beany note in the seamless flavors.

Their flavors have rotated a bit over the years, so we’ve only tried two of their current flavors of Love Grown Power O’s. But I’ve included information for all varieties.

    Original

This Power O’s Cereal original is seriously similar to the taste of Cheerios! It isn’t sweet, but rather delightfully savory, perfectly crunchy (holds up quite well in milk alternative, too!), and darn delicious.

Once your palate lets go of the traditional sugar, oil, salt cravings this Power O’s will fulfill your cereal cravings. They hold up well in almond milk so you are not let with mush halfway down.

They rival Cheerios in taste and crunch

The quality and taste of these surprisingly bean-based bites is hard to beat for everyday cereal lovers. They rival Cheerios in taste and crunch, but excel with a short, all-natural ingredient list. I could see making the Original a go-to snack, and I know the 3 flavored varieties would be kid favorites!

I never eat cold cereal (I’m an oatmeal person) but my daughter gave me a box of the chocolate Power O’s and I eat a bowl with almond milk whenever I need a snack. Delicious!

      • Alisa Fleming on August 1, 2018 3:22 pm

I would love to try them but live in Australia. Are they available here.

      • Alisa Fleming on January 2, 2017 1:47 pm

I’m not sure Janelle! You can check their website on availability – http://lovegrown.com/. Not the same in terms of beans, but I know Freedom Foods has quite a few cereal options in Australia.

I am located in Australia and have troubles finding this Cereal here.
Do you have any distributors in Australia? Queensland and New South Wales preferred.
Please contact me and we will discuss this further. Thank you very much. Patiently awaiting your reply.

      • Alisa Fleming on September 27, 2016 7:53 pm

You would need to check with them at Love Grown, Lukas. Their website is here – http://lovegrown.com/ – if not, Freedom Foods has similar cereals in Australia.

      • Alisa Fleming on May 29, 2016 4:49 pm

Their granola is made without rice, Lori, but all of the Love Grown cereals specifically do contain rice (at last check)

        Aw, how sad!

    11. Arnold Mink on April 27, 2015 8:18 am

I saw the Power O’s honey in the grocery store yesterday and I thought, no way can they make a cereal from beans. So I decided to try a box and brought home a box of the honey. I tried it this morning and was I surprised, it really was good, stayed crisp, not like cheerios or other flake cereal and had a very pleasant taste. I did however, have the after taste of scorched/burnt beans in my mouth for a while, but the good taste outweight the after taste. I am looking forward to trying the Chocolate and Strawberry O’s and later the flake type product. Tell Alex and Maddy that I really like eating health beans for breakfast.

    17. Laura K on August 11, 2014 12:34 pm

I tried the strawberry o’s a couple of weeks back and OMG they were delishous! I try to watch my carbs and I’m not a big cereal eater, but I got these to keep as a sort of treat…it was so hard not to eat the whole box though, I had to exercise a great deal of self control. It was hard to believe the main ingredients are beans!

      • Alisa Fleming on August 11, 2014 12:47 pm

They are tasty indeed! Thanks for sharing your review Laura!
