Bumble Bee Albacore Steak with Ginger & Soy

We had high hopes for this convenient, and readily available mainstream product.  The ingredients are surprisingly legible and simple.  Unfortunately, the Albacore Steak in Ginger & Soy did not past our taste tests.  We trialed it just like on the package, with rice and vegetables.  The flavor was almost too dull to stand alone, basically sweetened soy sauce with chopped ginger.  The Albacore itself was a different experience.  Imagine that canned tuna before it is broken up, as a whole steak.  It was in fact a "canned" tuna steak, very tough and void of that fresh tuna flavor.  Perhaps broken up once again, this would make a good mix-in and marinade for an asian style pasta salad.

  • Pros:  All natural ingredients (hard to find in mainstream products); Convenient; Low in fat, cholesterol, and sugar; Very high in protein
  • Cons:  Very high in sodium; Unusually "tough" for a steak
