Vegan Dream Vegetarian Jerky – Teriyaki

Vegan Dream Teriyaki JerkyIt had been quite a while since I last sampled Vegan Dream, but they have a new flavor out, Teriyaki, so I opted to give it a taste. Honestly, I had forgotten how good this stuff really is. Upon follow-up, I seriously wasn't surprised when I saw this front and center on the Vegan Dream website: "Vegan Dream recently won First Place in the World's Best Jerky Exhibition at the Farmer's Market Online site – beating out even the traditional meat varieties of jerky!!"

You really could fool any meat eater with this jerky. I was amazed by the spot on texture which has a nice pull and chew, but isn't dried out or tough as some jerky's can be.

The teriyaki flavor was also a pleasant surprise. So many are sweetened and can be almost sugary, but this was a pure savory experience leaning more toward savory and salty than sweet teriyaki. Yet, the flavor wasn't the least bit overpowering, making it an excellent snack option for hiking, since taste buds tend to heighten a bit during activity.

For myself, the only drawback that would keep me from purchasing this regularly is the ingredients. It is dense with protein (13g per ounce, which is excellent), but in the form of wheat gluten and soy flour … two ingredients that we are working to limit in my household. But, if gluten and soy aren't issues for you, I do think this must be the best vegetarian jerky on the market.

Unfortunately, I was hungry, so no time for a photo shoot. But, you can see photos from my prior review of the original Vegan Dream flavors, or visit the Vegan Dream website for a look-see, but it really does look just like jerky! Nothing fancy and certainly not a flashy one in front of the camera.
