Miyoko’s Vegan Butter has taken on different looks over the years, but they’ve stayed true to the European-style formula and thus far, to the buttery name. Despite extreme backlash (and even a lawsuit) from the dairy community, Miyoko won’t back down. She’s kept the word “butter” on the packaging, but made it clear that this is a vegan product, and “made from plants.”
And Miyoko continues to progress with new improvements. In the spring of 2020, she launched an Unsalted version of her European-Style Cultured Vegan Butter, and both varieties now have measurements on the wrap. They come in single one-cup blocks, and are marked for tablespoon and 1/3 cup increments.
Miyoko’s Vegan Butter Measures Up with Salted and Unsalted Varieties
It can be hard (read: near impossible) to find a dairy-free unsalted butter alternative. So I’m quite sure the unsalted version of Miyoko’s Vegan Butter will be very well received. And its rare that I make a “new packaging” announcement, but the measurements are a big improvement! Miyoko is truly thinking about versatility for cooking and baking with her latest buttery updates.
We have sampled Miyoko’s Vegan Butter on toast, and it was positively delicious. I seriously couldn’t get enough of the creamy mouthfeel and perfectly salted flavor. It didn’t really taste “cultured,” but it did have a touch of umami that I haven’t tasted in other butter alternatives.
This is a firm, slice-able butter alternative (much like butter sticks) that’s intended for spreading, baking, and cooking. If you are looking for buttery spread, in tubs, then have a look at Miyoko’s Oatmilk Vegan Butter.
And don’t forget to leave your own rating and review below once you’ve tried either variety of Miyoko’s European-Style Vegan Butter. It helps others make an informed purchasing decision!
How Miyoko makes Her European-Style Cultured Vegan Butter Blocks
Miyoko shuns palm oil in her butter formulation, but she uses a base of coconut oil and sunflower oil with just a touch of cashew cream. It’s fermented with live and active cultures and churned to achieve a taste and consistency that’s similar to European-Style butter.

Worth the money!
I am whole30/paleo and my boyfriend is not, this is the only butter we both enjoy in all the different foods we eat.
Wonderful
Love it!
High Saturatied fat level
Love this and it tastes pretty good, but it has high Saturated fat levels. So if you have high cholesterol like me..it is a concern
Great stuff!
Absolutely delicious. Used it on truffle/mushroom stuffed ravioli. Yum yum. Better than dairy butter.
AMAZING!!!
This butter is better tasting, in my opinion, than dairy butter!! It definitely tastes more like dairy butter than any other vegan butter that I’ve tried, and I have tried most of them available in the USA. Freezes well also..
Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum!
I finally got to crack into my Miyoko’s Cultured Vegan Butter! I had it on a skin-on roasted sweet potato, still warm. It certainly looks and acts just like dairy butter in this application, but I’ll agree with the person below me when I say it tastes LOADS better!
This tastes better than actual butter!!
Best (vegan) butter out there, absolutely recommend everyone to try it! I suggest buying it at Trader Joe’s, they sell it for the lowest price (about $5 in my neighborhood store).
Love it or Leave it?
I love this “butter” in cooking, baking, spreading. It has become a staple in my kitchen. The Umami flavor qualities and the silky melt in mouth are splendid- so whats not to like? It is made with coconut oil which raises “good” hdl but also raises “bad” ldl- the arguments about MCTs are unfounded. This “healthy” butter gets 80% of its cal from saturated fats compared to butter in the 60% range and olive oil in the teens.
Even Miyokos sunflower oil products are questionable bc of Omega 6 properties which increase inflammation and toxic fumes at high heat points.
Miyoko please make an avocado or olive oil based alternative so that I can continue my addiction! I have to watch my cholesterol. Your art of the churn is perfect but think the industry has misled us all on the health bennies of coconut oil.
Better than butter!
This delicious vegan butter taste like butter except richer! We are so grateful Miyokos begin making this butter years ago as we gave up dairy products more than seven years ago and the other vegan butters we found hideous. This one tastes like butter!
the best
This butter is AMAZING! I prefer it over ‘real” butter tbh! So creamy, spreads well and tastes wonderful 🙂
