A cow, a monkey, and a koala walk into a non-dairy plant … and Mooala Bananamilk is born. Okay, that might not be how it happened, but this unique dairy-free milk beverage with a crazy name and logo must have a good story behind it.
Not to be confused with banana-flavored milk, Mooala Bananamilk is a non-dairy beverage made with a real banana base. In fact, it’s made with bananas, sunflower seeds, and not much else. This rather virtuous drink is free of carrageenan, preservatives, and top allergens. And the Original flavor is even made without added sweeteners.
Mooala Bananamilk: All You Need to Know About This Dairy-Free Drink
I was curious how they would maintain a yellow banana drink without any real additives. The answer is, they didn’t. The Original beverage is a brownish color that doesn’t visually shout “banana!” But the dulled image doesn’t reflect the taste of Mooala Bananamilk.
We sampled the two initial flavors of Mooala Bananamilk, and were rather surprised by the flavor and consistency. You can read our tasting notes below, as well as the reviews from other consumers like you at the bottom of this post. Unsweetened Original
A wonderful banana scent emerged as I uncapped this beverage for the first time. However, the taste isn’t as boldly banana. It’s definitely banana, but it’s very light in fruit flavor with warm cinnamon in every sip. Sunflower seed milk can be quite overwhelming, but I think the banana neutralizes the sunflower seed base for a gently sweet beverage. The consistency is more like a very thin fruit smoothie than a creamy milk beverage, but I think it could be used for cereal, oatmeal and recipes.
My chief complaint is actually that the bottle is too big! Although they say that Mooala Bananamilk lasts seven days once opened, the taste was noticeably less fresh on day two. I think the lack of any preservatives (even ascorbic acid) causes the banana to degrade once opened. I’d prefer this in single serves.
Ingredients: filtered water, organic bananas, organic sunflower seeds, less than 2% of: calcium and potassium blend (calcium carbonate and potassium chloride), gellan gum, organic cinnamon.
Nutrition (per 1 cup): 60 calories, 3g fat, 9g carbs, 1g fiber, 4g sugars, 1g protein. Fortified with the following RDA percentages: 30% calcium.*
Chocolate
The chocolate was rich and deep with just the right amount of sweetness – it isn’t sugary at all. But the consistency was a little too “banana” for me. It was more like a drinkable smoothie than a chocolate milk. So I went to my in-house chocolate milk beverage expert: my husband. Tony said the underlying banana was a little too overpowering for his taste, and needed to be a little fresher.
In both of our opinions, this variety is good for smoothies and recipes, but it isn’t one that either of us would drink straight up. However, I do like that it only has 10 grams of sugar per cup (some of it from the bananas) and that it has a thicker consistency for recipes. I’ve also read that it works quite well in coffee.

We haven’t tried the strawberry yet, but it sounds like a delicious smoothie.

Although the bottles do not have a voluntary “may contain” statement, Mooala Bananamilk is not produced in a dedicated facility. Here is what they state about their allergen protocols:

Bannana milk
Excellent, it’s delicious taste, cremous and easy digestion.
I am lactose intolerant.
WE are bananas for it!
Well, not sure if I’m actually “bananas” for it, but it’s surprisingly good! Has a slight eggnog like taste to it. I could be thinking that since we are in the holiday season.
Tastes terrible!
I’ve been enjoying almond milk blended with real bananas for awhile and saw this brand in a store ‘on sale’ so I bought 2 of them to get the sale price. BIG MISTAKE! It wasn’t bad enough to pour down the drain, but it was difficult to force it down. The taste was definitely not a sweet banana flavor. I finished the two bottles, but I will never buy it again. I’ll be happy with my almond milk blended with real bananas! I use sunflower seeds on salads and such, but they don’t make a tasty drink (milk).
Better then i expected
I have tried the original, and strawberry flavor. The original one has a great light taste of banana, and a great amount of cinnamon. The original is great in cereal, It adds a great taste to it and just works because who didnt like cutting up bananas into their cereal :).
The Strawberry I keep picturing a smoothie, but I was able to drink it straight up. It had a great light banana, strawberry flavor to it. Both great alternatives.
Moove over nuts and go bananas
Loooooved this sooo much!
Tastes Great and Lasts
By far the best combination of taste and ingredients on the market. Will be a multiple repeat customer.
I'm obsessed with original banana milk!
My husband and I bought some today at the store just to try it out. I am trying out eating cleaner and finding new things to cure my sweet tooth without actually eating/drinking sugar, so I wanted to try. I looked at the ingredients and just thought it would naturally be a little sweet because usually bananas are quite a sweet fruit. It is not sweet. My husband hated it but I LOVED it, I can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s a familiar taste… almost like banana bread, but liquified. Which may be gross to some. But me, I poured a mug of this milk, gave it a little squirt of my liquid stevia, and it was just as sweet as I needed it to be. I’m trying not to drink too much because it does make my stomach churn a little harder after drinking it… I don’t know why. But I cannot wait to try it in my oatmeal. The texture and the flavor of this is like drinking a healthy smoothie drink. SO good, a nice treat for the health conscious.
not what i had expected
severely lacks any form of sweetener- surprisingly EXTREMELY bitter, though the flavor is okay
I wish I’d learned of this a long time ago. Good to use as any “milk”
Love it!!
Made me extremely sick
Within 15 minutes of drinking a small glass of the banana milk, I became nauseous. Within an hour, I was [very sick] which lasted for the next 5 hours. Be careful with this product!

I have to try this out! I love trying new milks and I do love banana flavor so I bet I love this too!
Yes, I’m sure you would Kristina!
I love Mooala Banana Milk, especially the chocolate flavor! It makes a super quick and easy chia seed pudding 🙂
Ooh, that’s a delicious idea!
I just tried this too! My husband and I both agreed, not something we’d drink on its own but definitely pleasurable in baked goods and smoothies!
Thanks for sharing this Liz!
Thank you for getting down to all the facts for us! Always love hearing your opinion on things and I actually saw this the other day and was wondering about it. Maybe I’ll be trying it 🙂
I think you should! It’s such a wholesome option.
Thank you for the review on mooala bananamilk. As I love all four ingerdients. I prefer drinking a smooth “essence of” the flavor so to speak. I also appreciated the life span review. I do tend to have my non-dairy products for a week. All in all seems like a good concept.
Happy to help!
