A cow, a monkey, and a koala walk into a non-dairy plant … and Mooala Bananamilk is born. Okay, that might not be how it happened, but this unique dairy-free milk beverage with a crazy name and logo must have a good story behind it.
Not to be confused with banana-flavored milk, Mooala Bananamilk is a non-dairy beverage made with a real banana base. In fact, it’s made with bananas, sunflower seeds, and not much else. This rather virtuous drink is free of carrageenan, preservatives, and top allergens. And the Original flavor is even made without added sweeteners.
Mooala Bananamilk: All You Need to Know About This Dairy-Free Drink
I was curious how they would maintain a yellow banana drink without any real additives. The answer is, they didn’t. The Original beverage is a brownish color that doesn’t visually shout “banana!” But the dulled image doesn’t reflect the taste of Mooala Bananamilk.
We sampled the two initial flavors of Mooala Bananamilk, and were rather surprised by the flavor and consistency. You can read our tasting notes below, as well as the reviews from other consumers like you at the bottom of this post. Unsweetened Original
A wonderful banana scent emerged as I uncapped this beverage for the first time. However, the taste isn’t as boldly banana. It’s definitely banana, but it’s very light in fruit flavor with warm cinnamon in every sip. Sunflower seed milk can be quite overwhelming, but I think the banana neutralizes the sunflower seed base for a gently sweet beverage. The consistency is more like a very thin fruit smoothie than a creamy milk beverage, but I think it could be used for cereal, oatmeal and recipes.
My chief complaint is actually that the bottle is too big! Although they say that Mooala Bananamilk lasts seven days once opened, the taste was noticeably less fresh on day two. I think the lack of any preservatives (even ascorbic acid) causes the banana to degrade once opened. I’d prefer this in single serves.
Ingredients: filtered water, organic bananas, organic sunflower seeds, less than 2% of: calcium and potassium blend (calcium carbonate and potassium chloride), gellan gum, organic cinnamon.
Nutrition (per 1 cup): 60 calories, 3g fat, 9g carbs, 1g fiber, 4g sugars, 1g protein. Fortified with the following RDA percentages: 30% calcium.*
Chocolate
The chocolate was rich and deep with just the right amount of sweetness – it isn’t sugary at all. But the consistency was a little too “banana” for me. It was more like a drinkable smoothie than a chocolate milk. So I went to my in-house chocolate milk beverage expert: my husband. Tony said the underlying banana was a little too overpowering for his taste, and needed to be a little fresher.
In both of our opinions, this variety is good for smoothies and recipes, but it isn’t one that either of us would drink straight up. However, I do like that it only has 10 grams of sugar per cup (some of it from the bananas) and that it has a thicker consistency for recipes. I’ve also read that it works quite well in coffee.

We haven’t tried the strawberry yet, but it sounds like a delicious smoothie.
Ingredients: filtered water, organic bananas, organic strawberries, organic sunflower seeds, less than 2% of: calcium and potassium blend (calcium carbonate and potassium chloride), vegetable juice for color, pectin, monk fruit juice concentrate, organic strawberry flavor, gellan gum.

More Allergen Notes
Although the bottles do not have a voluntary “may contain” statement, Mooala Bananamilk is not produced in a dedicated facility. Here is what they state about their allergen protocols:
We use a rigorous CIP (clean-in-place) sterilization process on the equipment after running any allergens and then test each production run for the Major 8 allergens before releasing the product. This would alert us to any cross-contamination issues while the product is still in the facility.

Love the Mooala Bananamilk
I absolutely love the flavour of this beverage. It is not too sweet and loaded with potassium. This is the perfect solution to my low potassium issue. I used to buy bananas and ended up throwing them out or making banana bread. I don’t eat bananas once they are too ripe which only takes a day or two to become overripe. I bought them at Earth Fare which are now closing their doors, unfortunately. I now have to find a new supplier.
I LOVE iT
My daughter is allergic to dairy. She loves this banana milk and we rotate between the almond milk too! My entire family drinks it now! It’s delicious and a clean product! So impressed.
I love it!!
I am lactose intolerant and I allergic to almonds so this was perfect for me and the taste was amazing, and now I can’t find it anywhere 🙁
Mooala Bananamilk
I purchased this product from Whole Foods Glades Road Boca Raton florida in my opinion it is undrinkable! Too terrible tastes like peptobismol
LOVE it!
I had never heard of banana milk before. But I saw it at Whole Foods and thought it sounded interesting. I bought the original flavor with cinnamon in it. I absolutely LOVE it!! I find it addictive. It’s so delicious. I will definitely buy it again.
Didn’t Quite Live Up To My (Hopes)
Was it refreshingly UNIQUE ? Yes. But, I agree with the author in that by day three, there was considerable “drop-off” in flavor. Also, the Biggest (Disappointment) is the Price Point. It would be an occasional ‘Treat’ at best, for that much more than my typical Almond/Coconut Milk choice.
Original yummy when tweeked
I add about three squares of dark chocolate (nuke in 1-2 tsp of purified water for 30 seconds, stir to make syrup, temper with a bit of banana milk and then combine with the full glass of banana milk). Not sure how this compares to the company’s chocolate version, but this one works for me as a yummy dairy free version of my favorite chocolate beverage.
Actually better than expected
I went in to trying this milk with the thought of “what the heck? I mean, I guess it’ll taste like someone added bananas to milk”. Upon tasting it I realized it was actually much more accurate to describe it as a banana bread flavored milk. Highly recommend this milk in cereal and hot chocolate.
Nothing to write home about
I tried the chocolate. I don’t know what I was expecting but it didn’t live up to it. It was definitely a “meh” experience for me
Better than alternatives
I absolutely love this brand. I got the original bananamilk as a dairy alternative. I have tried almond, rice, soy, pea, oat, you name it. The carbs and sugars in some of those are so high without buying the unsweetened versions. This banana milk only has 6 g net carbs and 3 g of sugar while tasting better than most in my opinion. It isn’t too artificially sweet tasting but at the same time I would not put this in a savory recipe or anything.

Yes, I’m sure you would Kristina!
I love Mooala Banana Milk, especially the chocolate flavor! It makes a super quick and easy chia seed pudding 🙂
Ooh, that’s a delicious idea!
I just tried this too! My husband and I both agreed, not something we’d drink on its own but definitely pleasurable in baked goods and smoothies!
Thanks for sharing this Liz!
Thank you for getting down to all the facts for us! Always love hearing your opinion on things and I actually saw this the other day and was wondering about it. Maybe I’ll be trying it 🙂
I think you should! It’s such a wholesome option.
Thank you for the review on mooala bananamilk. As I love all four ingerdients. I prefer drinking a smooth “essence of” the flavor so to speak. I also appreciated the life span review. I do tend to have my non-dairy products for a week. All in all seems like a good concept.
Happy to help!
