Nutchello Milk Beverages offer a Flavor Symphony (DISCONTINUED)

By Alisa Fleming on May 5, 2016 Dairy-Free Milk Substitute Reviews, Product Reviews

Unfortunately, the delicious Nutchello milk beverages were discontinued. But they do still make Extra Creamy Almondmilks.

I still remember how just a decade ago, one grocer in my town carried one variety of soymilk. That was it. In the years since, almond, coconut, cashew and more milk beverages have popped up on the shelves of nearly every store I enter. And now, they’ve done it. It’s no longer about just creating alternatives to dairy, it’s about making something BETTER that milk processors have yet to attempt. Say hello to Nutchello.

    Nutchello

I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. Nutchello appeared to be just another nut milk line that was likely too indulgent to drink daily. But, I headed to the Silk booth at Natural Products Expo West to give it a fair shake. My how I was wrong. I was immediately won over by the Nutchello Caramel Almonds + Cashews with its unique, alluring, Pralines ‘n Cream like flavor. But it had to be high in sugars, or so I thought. One cup has just 9 grams of sugars, LESS than a glass of bland, very un-sweet cow milk!

With my curiosity peeked, I picked up the whole orchestra of Nutchello flavors, and quickly discovered the simple pleasure of truly sippable milk … or more correctly, dairy-free nut beverages! Here is how I recommend enjoying the three varieties of Nutchello for optimum satisfaction …

    Toasted Coconut + Cashews Nutchello

It’s Cinco de Mayo, and let me tell you, this nutty beverage makes the perfect instant horchata stand-in. Simply pour over a glass of ice and sprinkle generously with cinnamon. Cool, refreshing, and delicious. Grown-ups may want to add a little rum, too! I may or may not have done that.

    Nutchello

On its own, this flavor takes nuttiness to new heights with punchy coconut and cashew flavors. It’s bright, gently sweet, and creamy but relatively light. Some other ways that I recommend indulging in this vegan and dairy-free beverage include:

    • Stove-top rice pudding
    • Lean pina coladas (frozen pineapple, ice, rum, and a little toasted coconut)
    • With dairy-free cookies (dunk away!)
    • Chai tea
    • Mango protein smoothies (blend with frozen mango and vanilla plant-based protein powder)

    Caramel Almonds + Cashews Nutchello

This is the one for me. My holy grail of sipping milk beverages. No need for ice, just chill, pour, and escape to your happy place (the monkey straw is optional, but recommended for a youthful escape).

    Nutchello

Though a bit less sweet than that beloved Pralines ‘n Cream ice cream, this Nutchello is comforting with warm caramel notes. I can easily think of far too many ways that it will bring beautiful music to my everyday menu:

    • Granola (the perfect cold cereal topper)
    • Banana nog smoothies (frozen banana, Nutchello, spices)
    • Oatmeal or other hot cereal (use it as the cooking liquid for incredible infusion)
    • Rewarding caramel shakes (just add cashew ice cream!)
    • Buttery pancakes (use in place of the liquid in your recipe)
    • Iced tea (drizzle it in – yum!)

Rich Dark Chocolate + Walnuts Nutchello

I know, it’s spring, and I should be talking about only cool beverages, but we’ve actually had bouts of snow recently. And since Tony loves heating up chocolate almond milk to make instant hot chocolate, I thought this beverage deserved the same special treatment. Oh the joy. When warmed with several drops of pure peppermint extract, this became a minty, perfectly sweet, deep hot chocolate to remember!

    Nutchello

This slightly more indulgent Nutchello flavor has a rich, very comforting chocolate taste that lingers with a wonderful sweetness. It easily satisfies chocoholic cravings on its own, but I also recommend the following uses:

    • Chocolate shakes (with dairy-free chocolate ice cream .. mmm!)
    • Post-workout with a scoop or plant-based protein powder
    • Frozen hot chocolate (blend with ice and a drizzle of maple)
    • Extra-chocolaty pudding
    • Nutty mocha frappuccino (ice, coffee, blend, sip)
    • Chocolate martinis (swap in for the half & half – adults only, of course)

Please note, this is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Silk. The opinions, photos and text are all mine. And yes, I really do love Nutchello that much.

    Nutchello “Need to Know” Info

Find It: Fortunately, this stuff is already well distributed. They have it at Walmart and several conventional grocers in my dinky little city. See the Silk Store Locator, which allows you to search by product.

Read the Label: It is non-dairy, vegan, and made without soy, gluten and peanuts. Yes, it’s also carrageenan-free, non-GMO verified and fortified  with calcium, vitamin D and vitamin B12.

Oh my! I’d love this in the evening. Sometimes I warm up cashew milk and add some cinnamon and stevia or coconut sugar. I’d love to try one of these. Hopefully they’ll come to Canada soon – we have to wait so long for new products. I’m not good at being patient with food. 🙂

I don’t blame you Dreena! Next time I’m heading up, I’ll call to see what you want 🙂 We usually fly into Washington, shop and drive up when going to our cabin since groceries are so much pricier in Canada, too.

Looks AMAZING! Walnut + chocolate is one of my favorite flavor combinations ever. Is there a particular meaning to the name? Just curious. I cannot wait for the unsweetened versions. . . . !! 😛

Hmmm I’ll have to try and find some! I gave up milk in 2010. I LOVED it for decades prior. But I’ve yet to find a substitute that I enjoy!

      Reply
      • Alisa Fleming on May 5, 2016 9:47 am

I have not! Nutchello is more of a 2% milk consistency, so it would make more of an ice milk than an ice cream unless some other fatty ingredients were added.
