At a trade show we stumbled across a surprising little company. Olivia Chocolatiers out of Quebec makes a range of creative, allergy-friendly chocolate bars. Their product line of Olivia Chocolat Bars includes more than one type of dairy-free milk chocolate, white chocolate, and several raw varieties. They’re all certified organic, kosher pareve, and labeled as “school safe.”
Tasting Notes for Olivia Chocolat Bars
Olivia Chocolat Bars are relatively thin artisan chocolate bars with melt-in-your-mouth squares. We sampled the following varieties.
Hempmilk Choco
What a unique chocolate bar! It’s very smooth, buttery, and indeed, it is hempy! Hemp seeds are strong in flavor, so those grassy notes do come through. But it’s still very rich chocolate bar. It’s listed as 44% cacao, but isn’t overly sweet, like you might expect.
Ingredients: raw cocoa beans*, unrefined cane sugar*, cocoa butter*, raw hemp seed*, non-GMO sunflower lecithin, vanilla bean*. *Certified Organic. Made in a facility free of almond, walnut, hazel, pine, brazil, and main allergen nuts, as well as no peanuts, soy, milk, nor gluten naturally. May contain traces of coconut.
Coco-Milk Choco
I love this chocolate bar! It has a very creamy, melty finish with a Mounds bar flavor vibe. I honestly couldn’t get enough of it. Like the hempmilk bar, it’s 44% cacao, but is just sweet enough for a milky chocolate bar.
Ingredients: cocoa beans*, unrefined cane sugar*, cocoa butter*, coconut*, non-GMO sunflower lecithin, vanilla bean*. *Certified Organic. Made in a facility free of almond, walnut, hazel, pine, brazil, and main allergen nuts, as well as no peanuts, soy, milk, nor gluten naturally. Contains coconut.
Chai Choco-Latte
This is a slightly firmer chocolate that starts off smooth, pure, and simple, but then the spices emerge. The flavor is warm and full-bodied with a pleasant cayenne kick at the end.
Ingredients: cocoa beans*, unrefined cane sugar*, cocoa butter*, coconut*, non-GMO sunflower lecithin, ginger*, cinnamon*, cardamom*, clove*, cayenne pepper*, vanilla bean*. *Certified Organic. Made in a facility free of almond, walnut, hazel, pine, brazil, and main allergen nuts, as well as no peanuts, soy, milk, nor gluten naturally. Contains coconut.
Vegan White
This isn’t quite as sweet as your typical candy-like white chocolate, but it’s still quite sweet with a rich cocoa butter base and hints of coconut. It’s also very smooth and creamy overall. As a heads up, this bar contains some pineapple. It isn’t notable in the taste, but is a “surprise” ingredient.
Ingredients: unrefined cane sugar*, cocoa butter*, coconut*, pineapple, non-GMO sunflower lecithin, vanilla bean*. *Certified Organic. Made in a facility free of almond, walnut, hazel, pine, brazil, and main allergen nuts, as well as no peanuts, soy, milk, nor gluten naturally. Contains coconut.

Artisan quality at mainstream prices
This is such a fun product line to taste test. The Hemp is definitely a little grassy for my tastes, but I love the coconut milk bar – it’s delicious. The White chocolate is also impressive and I loved the spices in the Chai.
