Peas of Mind Veggie Wedgies Baked Fries (DISCONTINUED)

    3
By Alisa Fleming on September 1, 2014 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

Unfortunately, Peas of Mind has gone out of business. For other options that are currently available, see our Dairy-Free Fresh & Frozen Entree Reviews section.

Peas of Mind is a very cool brand that makes healthy, veggie-focused frozen foods for kids. As a true vegetable lover, I was beyond curious about their Veggie Wedgies, or baked vegetable French fries.

Everything about this healthy convenience food is kid-friendly: the fun name and packaging, the chunky size for little fingers, the soft texture, the mild taste, and the “free-from” nature to accommodate the rapid rise in food intolerance among children.

We sampled the Broccoli and Cauliflower Veggie Wedgies, and the first word from both Tony and I was “interesting”. Our more mature taste buds wanted either salt or a dip, and natural ketchup did the trick. I also think these Veggie Wedgies would be awesome with honey mustard.

The Cauliflower Veggie Wedgies had a more subdued and pure flavor that worked quite nicely on the potato backdrop, while the Broccoli was much more prominent. Even broccoli fans, such as myself, may notice how assertive this cruciferae can be!

We did bake the Veggie Wedgies for the maximum time and never achieved a golden hue. They did get a nice soft and slightly starchy interior with a perfectly baked outside that allowed them to stand-up. Though notably made with dehydrated potatoes, it was beyond impressive that the first ingredients in these Veggie Wedgies were broccoli and cauliflower!

This veggie-loaded finger food isn’t a stand-out with flavor, but they are perfect for little ones, have an impressive ingredient list and nutrition profile, and come alive with ketchup, honey mustard, or other bold dairy-free dip. We also loved that they are baked and made without top allergens.
