Planet Oat Oatmilk has always been a low sugar brand, and most of their flavors have “no added sugars” (see note below). But a few grams of sugars are produced in the processing of the oats. So they’ve launched two new “Unsweetened” varieties that each contain zero grams of total sugar to help meet every need.
When Planet Oat Oatmilk was first released, you might have thought this was a fledgling company, but it is produced by HP Hood. They’re a $2 billion, 170-year old dairy, and one of the largest food and beverage companies in the U.S. Like so many other dairy producers, HP Hood jumped into the fast-growing, non-dairy market. But unlike many of their competitors, it looks like they got it right the first time. Planet Oat Oatmilk has been met with rave reviews for it’s creamy consistency, fortification, performance in coffee, and naturally low-sugar taste.
Planet Oat Oatmilk Doubles Down on Low Sugar with New Unsweetened
Aside from the dark chocolate, all of the Planet Oat Oatmilk varieties are made without any added sugars (see note below). As mentioned, an enzymatic process used to make oatmilk (so it isn’t goopy like homemade versions!) breaks some of the carbohydrates down into sugars. So they aren’t sugar-free, but do not have any sugars added to the ingredients. Now, somehow, Planet Oat has managed to remove those last traces of oat sugar in their new, sugar-free, unsweetened varieties. And like their other flavors, these cartons are also generously fortified with vitamins and minerals.

Added Sugar in Planet Oat Oatmilk
It looks like some in-store cartons are now showing 4 grams of added sugars in the Extra Creamy, Original, and Vanilla varieties, despite no change in the total sugars, formula, or information on Planet Oat’s website. There was a ruling that oat milk companies must disclose “oat sugar” created during the production of oat milk (they use an enzymatic process that breaks some of the oat down into simpler carbohydrates), as added sugars. We assume that’s why cartons in store seem to have “added sugars” now. So technically, there still aren’t any types of sugar added to the formula, but sugar is created in the processing.

Amazing!
My 2 year old is allergic to almost everything under the sun! Eggs, milk, soy, tree nuts, and lost goes on. This is the only product that I found for my son. I wish they made more products that had all the top allergies removed. I swear by this product and recommend to anyone and everyone. I have tasted it and I even switched to this product as it tatses amazing! I dont even habe food allergies.
I love it!
I recently started using the extra creamy in my morning coffee, and I am extremely satisfied. The taste is just right, and the texture is indeed extra creamy.
yummy!
Best milk ever. I drink the vanilla kind. No more feeling bloated when I drink a nice ol cup. This milk makes me feel like a superhero. Oats milk makes me feel like I can throw a cotton ball over the roof of my house! I love this milk so much I give it to my pet iguana. He enjoys the milk so much his tail is super strong. It must be the milk…..
Love the Dark Chocolate, but not the cap!
I love this product. I use both Vanilla and the Dark Chocolate. I recently bought a carton of the dark chocolate to use in my coffee. BUT, you have to shake it before you use it. The cap on the dark chocolate does not seal properly once opened. And unfortunately, I had chocolate oatmilk all over the kitchen and myself. Worst part, I did this two mornings in a row. I thought maybe I hadn’t tightened the cap enough the first day, but nope! It happened again. Yikes.
Vanilla
I’ve tried the Vanilla and its delicious…i keep going back for more i love love it!!! I avoid soy…can’t find it just anywhere.. i drink it for a snack..delicious!!!

Looks and Tastes Like Dirty Dishwater
Years ago I saw a funny sketch on Comedy Central about a marketing firm trying to come up with ways to sell Yogurt Water–you know, that thin film of sour water that forms on top of a half-eaten container of yogurt when you put it back in the fridge overnight. Well, the folks at Planet Oat must have seen that comedy sketch too, and decided to turn it into a business model. “Hey, guys, let’s take the cloudy, starchy liquid that’s left at the bottom of a bowl of oatmeal when you accidentally make it too watery, and sell it in the grocery store!” I tried using the Vanilla Oatmilk as a substitute for my vanilla non-dairy creamer, but it’s really just gray water that did nothing to lighten the color of the coffee, but did succeed in giving it a really nasty aftertaste. I had to pour the whole cup of coffee down the sink, quickly followed by the remaining 49 ounces of the container of oatmilk. I’m sure at tomorrow morning’s Planet Oat sales dept. meeting, someone will say, “hey, you know that dirty water that collects in the drain pipe under the kitchen sink? I have a brilliant idea for a new product….”
Very Watery
This is the worst oat milk I’ve had. Extremely watery and lacking flavor. This is the “original”
Undesirable surprise in milk!
The first time I bought some of the Dark Chocolate Plant Oatmilk the taste was great it had me as a new customer. Decided to go back to the store and buy another carton. Unfortunately, the second carton was not so great. Purchased the carton May 2020 and had about a half of the carton left. On Sunday, May 31, poured a glass started to drink the milk and felt something lumpy and thick in my mouth from the milk. Spit the milk and whatever the object was back in the glass and to my surprise, it was some type of mildew in the milk. The expiration date on the carton said June 25, 2020. Sadly, not in any hurry to buy a third carton. Heading back to the store buy Silk Dark Chocolate Almond milk.
