Planet Oat Oatmilk has always been a low sugar brand, and most of their flavors have “no added sugars” (see note below). But a few grams of sugars are produced in the processing of the oats. So they’ve launched two new “Unsweetened” varieties that each contain zero grams of total sugar to help meet every need.
When Planet Oat Oatmilk was first released, you might have thought this was a fledgling company, but it is produced by HP Hood. They’re a $2 billion, 170-year old dairy, and one of the largest food and beverage companies in the U.S. Like so many other dairy producers, HP Hood jumped into the fast-growing, non-dairy market. But unlike many of their competitors, it looks like they got it right the first time. Planet Oat Oatmilk has been met with rave reviews for it’s creamy consistency, fortification, performance in coffee, and naturally low-sugar taste.
Planet Oat Oatmilk Doubles Down on Low Sugar with New Unsweetened
Aside from the dark chocolate, all of the Planet Oat Oatmilk varieties are made without any added sugars (see note below). As mentioned, an enzymatic process used to make oatmilk (so it isn’t goopy like homemade versions!) breaks some of the carbohydrates down into sugars. So they aren’t sugar-free, but do not have any sugars added to the ingredients. Now, somehow, Planet Oat has managed to remove those last traces of oat sugar in their new, sugar-free, unsweetened varieties. And like their other flavors, these cartons are also generously fortified with vitamins and minerals.

Added Sugar in Planet Oat Oatmilk
It looks like some in-store cartons are now showing 4 grams of added sugars in the Extra Creamy, Original, and Vanilla varieties, despite no change in the total sugars, formula, or information on Planet Oat’s website. There was a ruling that oat milk companies must disclose “oat sugar” created during the production of oat milk (they use an enzymatic process that breaks some of the oat down into simpler carbohydrates), as added sugars. We assume that’s why cartons in store seem to have “added sugars” now. So technically, there still aren’t any types of sugar added to the formula, but sugar is created in the processing.

Absolutely Delicious
This is by far my favorite non-dairy milk. I always buy the Extra Creamy and it works perfectly in my coffee and cereal. The regular was my first go-to, but it is slightly more watery than the extra creamy (as one would expect). I highly recommend this for someone who is wary of non-dairy milks!
No after taste
I looked up a few vegan free milks to try, and was skeptical about this product, but I was at BJ’s, and had a coupon for $2.50 off for 2, so I wanted to try it. I really like it. Its better than almond milk, and soy. I cant wait to try it in my coffee, and smoothies.
The Best Oat Milk!
For a month now my daughter and I have been trying every kind of non dairy option we could find for our coffee. I had all but given up when I found Planet Oat’s Extra Creamy Original Oat Milk and put it in my foamer. Not only did it foam beautifully but it tastes exceptional and now I dont miss not having half and half in my coffee! Thank you for an exceptional product!
Best all around oat milk
I’ve tried almost every oat milk there is, and this is my favorite. As someone who avoids sugar I appreciate how low the content of sugar is and the lack of oil. Oil being added to milk really grosses me out. I love the flavor. I bake and cook with it and I also love it in my coffee.
Best milk ever!
I was a lifelong milk drinker until some years ago, when I become convinced of the negative health aspects of dairy. Relieved of the cardio-threats of dairy and overrun mucosal stimulation, I sought other substitutes to no avail. Nothing had that rich, fulfilling taste – comparable to cows’milk – until I tried Planet Oat. It’s not that the taste is identical: it has its own, unique rich flavor. But the creamy richness and satisfying aftertaste is there in a way that, heretofore, only cows’ milk could do! So far, I’ve only tried the original, but I intend to try all flavors. Thank you, Planet Oat, for bringing back to me one of life’s fine pleasures: a tall glass of rich, creamy milk!
More like regular milk
I like oat milk better than any of the other plant-milks. I like their original even without the extra creamy. It doesn’t make my coffee taste terrible and that is what I use it for. The other brands use oil and I am trying to do Whole Food Plant-Based low to no oil. I also want the Vitamin B12 because I keep forgetting to supplement.
Great product
Very good, fresh tasting flavor
Not Watery
I decided to try it when I saw Extra Creamy on the carton. All of the other dairy free is watery and I don’t want watery cereal. This one did get it right the first time. Great taste and great appearance. Now I buy nothing but Planet Oat oatmilk.
Really creamy & tasty
I was surprised and pleased with the taste and creamy addition this was for my shakes and smoothies. I will definitely buy this again and again to replace some of my almond milk additions. This was my first time to have Planet Oat oat milk. I have not tried it in my coffee but as soon as I buy some more, I will.
Excellent Alternative
I’ve been enjoying Planet Oat Oatmilk (no sugar) for months now. I enjoy the creamy consistency and it’s a great substitute for cream in my coffee. I never have to add any sweetener to my coffee.
