Planet Oat Oatmilk has always been a low sugar brand, and most of their flavors have “no added sugars” (see note below). But a few grams of sugars are produced in the processing of the oats. So they’ve launched two new “Unsweetened” varieties that each contain zero grams of total sugar to help meet every need.
When Planet Oat Oatmilk was first released, you might have thought this was a fledgling company, but it is produced by HP Hood. They’re a $2 billion, 170-year old dairy, and one of the largest food and beverage companies in the U.S. Like so many other dairy producers, HP Hood jumped into the fast-growing, non-dairy market. But unlike many of their competitors, it looks like they got it right the first time. Planet Oat Oatmilk has been met with rave reviews for it’s creamy consistency, fortification, performance in coffee, and naturally low-sugar taste.
Planet Oat Oatmilk Doubles Down on Low Sugar with New Unsweetened
Aside from the dark chocolate, all of the Planet Oat Oatmilk varieties are made without any added sugars (see note below). As mentioned, an enzymatic process used to make oatmilk (so it isn’t goopy like homemade versions!) breaks some of the carbohydrates down into sugars. So they aren’t sugar-free, but do not have any sugars added to the ingredients. Now, somehow, Planet Oat has managed to remove those last traces of oat sugar in their new, sugar-free, unsweetened varieties. And like their other flavors, these cartons are also generously fortified with vitamins and minerals.

Added Sugar in Planet Oat Oatmilk
It looks like some in-store cartons are now showing 4 grams of added sugars in the Extra Creamy, Original, and Vanilla varieties, despite no change in the total sugars, formula, or information on Planet Oat’s website. There was a ruling that oat milk companies must disclose “oat sugar” created during the production of oat milk (they use an enzymatic process that breaks some of the oat down into simpler carbohydrates), as added sugars. We assume that’s why cartons in store seem to have “added sugars” now. So technically, there still aren’t any types of sugar added to the formula, but sugar is created in the processing.

Best tasting by far! Review is for the Original
I have tried several other popular oatmilks and Planet Oat is by far the best. It is not overly sweet, does not contain oils which my system doesn’t tolerate well and has 1/3 of my daily calcium needs. All of this in a smooth, creamy, mild oat tasting drink. Delicious!!!
Oat is for oatmeal
Absolute garbage taste like burnt motor oil
The only milk alternative I like
I’ve tried to cut back on dairy as I’ve gotten older. It’s not something I particularly WANTED to do but my stomach seemed to have developed a lessened tolerance to straight up milk over the years. So I’ve reluctantly tested all the various milk alternatives. Soy milk, cashew milk, almond milk, rice milk, coconut milk, and I’ve found them all lacking. They just don’t TASTE like milk and feel more like I’m drinking flavored water which isn’t exactly what I want in my cereal.
Then I stumbled across oat milk. In terms of flavor it’s the only one that I like and Planet Oat in particular is my top pick. It’s creamier than most and has the perfect blend of oat and near-milk taste. It goes with cereal, peanut butter, and I’ve even tossed it into certain recipes to replace milk, though unfortunately it doesn’t have the same chemistry so it just doesn’t work right in a number of cases. Still, if I have to abandoned a frosty glass of milk and replace it with a milk-substitute, I’ll take Planet Oat any day.
Perfect for lattes
I’ve tried multiple brand names and varieties of oat milk but the extra creamy oat milk by Planet Oat adds the perfect texture to my oat milk lavender lattes. Monin was the source for the lavender syrup I needed.
Great in coffee
Love the robust taste in my coffee. My 2 year old grandson loves it also!
No Sugar Creamer Please
The consistency of the creamer is very good, however for a coffee drinker that doesn’t sweeten her coffee, the creamer is much too sweet. The unsweetened oat milk tastes good but is too thin for coffee.
Planet Oat Milk
I just bought the vanilla oat milk and it was delicious I will definitely recommend it I like it much better than soy milk personally.
Oat Milk is bomb.
I use this milk for my diabetic shake. I can drink this with or without cereal. In a cup by itself. It’s tastes better than almond milk. Because almond milk tastes like wood.
Tastes funny
I like the Silk Vanilla Almond Milk better. It has a funny taste!
not suitable for froth
I had hoped this could be my sugar free solution for froth. Sorry to report it doesn’t foam at all, not even in the Vitamix Aerdisc. I keep searching!
