Updated March 2023! There are quite a few bars on the market, but Real Food Bar founders, Anna and Sean, thought they could do it better. They traveled the world on hiking adventures, and never quite found the perfect fuel – so they created it. Their initial line with three flavors was quite impressive. But the healthy duo decided to reformulate last year, and has also added more flavors to the Real Food Bar line. The update included removing honey from their recipe, so the entire collection is now vegan friendly.
Real Food Bar Focuses on High Fiber and Plant-Based Protein
These chunky bars are very fulfilling with a good balance of fat, fiber, protein, and natural sugars for sustained energy. I always hesitate on calling a bar a “meal replacement” (even though we’ve all done it!), but these really are heftier than most brands on the market. I could easily see packing Real Food Bar on a hiking trip or simply keeping a stash for an on-the-go day. And knowing me, I would keep an assortment. I always like to bounce around between flavors, and Real Food Bar now has six options to choose from.

Won me over for lasting energy
I’ll admit that when I first tasted these bars, I found them a bit too dense with protein powder. But I couldn’t deny how full and energized they kept me for hours. We’ve been traveling by train to various countries, and dairy-free breakfasts haven’t always been easy to come by. But one of these bars keeps me going all morning. And I’ve been warming up to the very dense texture. I enjoyed the flavors from the start. They are just sweet enough and actually taste like the flavors on the label. And I love, love, love that they don’t use stevia or any other odd-tasting sweeteners. There are no “funny” notes in the flavor. I think the cacao is my favorite (it has chocolate chips throughout), but the peanut butter is the most fulfilling.
