Europeans are quite familiar with dairy-free heavy cream. Most of their natural food stores carry several varieties. But in North America, we’ve been limited on options. For decades, we’ve relied on coconut cream and homemade cashew cream in recipes, but some store-bought choices are beginning to emerge. A couple of years ago, creamy Carnation Almond Cooking Milk popped up, and now Silk Dairy Free Heavy Whipping Cream is entering the mix.
This thicker, but pourable blend is made for cooking, baking, and whipping, and it’s been silently sneaking onto refrigerated store shelves.
Silk Dairy Free Heavy Whipping Cream is Making a Stir
Unlike most dairy-free cream, this ready-to-pour carton isn’t filled with coconut cream. Instead, it’s a stabilized emulsion of oils and waters that’s made without top allergens, and is even pea protein-free (for those of you with cross-reactivity from peanut allergies). But it still contains coconut!

Gums up
I like the product but it gums up and will not pour about 1/2 through
Not as Good
If you are vegan then it might be a good alternative, but it does not whip up the same as regular whipping cream. It ends up looking like cottage cheese. The texture is just not there. I would say maybe not whip it too much and just use it as a frothy whipping cream maybe. I was hoping it would be just like whipped cream and it isn’t.
Excellent
I’ve made chocolate pie, S’mores pie and pumpkin pie with this. It’s delicious and like it’s dairy counterpart! I was delighted to find this as my son is allergic to dairy and I don’t want him to be excluded or have everything taste like coconut. This stuff is amazing. Thank you silk!!!!!!!
we use it for so many vegan dishes!
cream soups, no problem, whipped cream for desserts, you got it! we love the stuff, scalloped potatoes that don’t taste like almond…yes! our biggest problem is availability in stores!
Can finally (AND I MEAN FINALLY!) drink tea & coffee, again!
I only like coffee & tea with cream. So, for 20 years of veganism, I haven’t enjoyed any coffee or black tea. I have tried every vegan creamer I could get my hands on, and none worked for me.
Until this… …THIS B****, right here! Done!! Good grief, I’ve waited a long time for this product! 🙂
Shake
I think what is making it seem like it has gone bad is the instructions to shake well. The first one I took back to store. Now I stir gently….I love it for my coffee…on my 3rd day now …no current problems.
Great product!
I’ve used this product 3x and I loved it! I made whipped cream to top a strawberry shortcake twice and this week I made vodka sauce with it. It worked great for both. I did not have any issues with it getting hard or lumpy in fridge as others said. In fact this time it was at the use by date but still a creamy liquid. So happy that I found a dairy substitute! I am lactose intolerant and I gave up a lot of foods.
Similar issues
I love the taste of this alternative heavy cream! However, like many others who have used it, it solidifies after opening! I thought I was storing it wrong or something! I hope they figure out the glitches soon because I really like it!
Solidify after opening & used once
Making watermelon pie & needed heavy whipping cream. Decided to go with dairy free- big mistake! It didn’t whip up like it supposed to. So next time we will read all reviews before wasting our time & money!
Pretty good dairy cream alternative.
It’s creamy smooth, very slightly ‘sweet’ like cream without a coconut aftertaste. It is a bit thicker than i would like in the carton, though. It is as if it had already been whipped, doesn’t pour from the carton, but must squeeze it out. Wondering, should it be kept at room temp instead of the fridge? Because when coconut oil gets cold it solidifies… I have only tried it for coffee so far . I would like for it to be a more liquid cream state when i pour it from the carton.
Response from Go Dairy Free
It must be kept refrigerated. I think they’ve had some batch production issues with the recent changes in our food supply chains. It should be fluid, but some people are getting very thick batches, some are getting lumpy ones, and some are getting fluid. Hopefully the glitches get fixed!
