    SimplyVeggie Savoury Bars (DISCONTINUED)

    2
By Alisa Fleming on April 7, 2015 Discontinued Products, Product Reviews

Sadly, Simply Bars discontinued most of their dairy-free bars. See our Dairy-Free Bar Reviews for dozens of brands that are still available.

Several years ago was when I first questioned, “why are all bars sweet?” After trying my hand at homemade savory bars, I quickly learned how tricky it is to balance the pungency of vegetables, herbs and spices in such a thick format. A few companies have also tried, with moderate success, but SimplyVeggie Savoury Bars are the first to truly hit the mark.

Tasting Notes for SimplyVeggie Savoury Bars

And these aren’t simply the best savory bars that I’ve tried to date, SimplyVeggie bars are incredibly flavorful, satisfying, and quite scrumptious.

    Sesame Chives

I sampled the Sesame Chives first, as it sounded like the mellower option of the two. Indeed, the chives lent just a mild onion flavor to the overall scene, allowing the sesame to permeate and assert its low-key presence. There was a very light sweetness – just enough to bring the flavors together, but not so much that it took away from the savory bar experience.

SimplyVeggie Savory Bars - Sesame Chives (these are the best savory bars I've tried to date - vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free and flavor-filled!)

    Smoky BBQ Peppers

MmmMmmmMmm! This is not a great option for noshing on right before a date night. Each bite packs in a wallop of flavor. The scent reminded me of bbq potato chips. Though, the taste was more complex and less sweet … deep, smokey, spicy and delicious!

SimplyVeggie Savory Bars - Smoky BBQ Peppers (these are the best savory bars I've tried to date - vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free and flavor-filled!)

Both varieties of SimplyVeggie Savoury Bars have a very crispy-chewy, granola bar-like texture. They’re packed with numerous of dehydrated vegetable bits and brown rice crisps (some pea protein crisps). Peanut butter helps bring it all together. As for nutritional values, these savory bars qualify as a solid healthy snack bar in my book. Each bar packs 5 grams fiber, 4 grams sugar, 5 grams protein, 150 calories, and the following RDA percentages: 40% calcium, 70% iron, 50% vitamin C (all from veggies).

The Facts on SimplyVeggies Savoury Bars

Certifications: SimplyVeggie Savoury Bars are Certified Kosher Dairy (they are not made with dairy, but this indicates that dairy may be present in another product made on the line). They are labeled as non-GMO, gluten-free, and vegan, but we did not note certifications for these.

Dietary Notes: By ingredients, SimplyVeggie Savoury Bars are dairy-free / non-dairy, egg-free, gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, and vegetarian. Nonetheless, check with the company on their manufacturing processes for all varieties if potential allergen cross-contamination is an issue for you. Processes, ingredients, and labeling are subject to change at any time for any company / product.
