Sjaak’s Bites come in Dairy-Free Milk and Dark Chocolate Varieties

By Alisa Fleming on January 19, 2008 Dairy-Free Chocolate Reviews, Product Reviews

Before Christmas I was privileged to sample a wonderful selection of Sjaak’s vegan, organic, fair trade (whew!) chocolates. As you can see, they have an incredible selection of bars, and even vegan boxed chocolates.  Though I was a bit slow in writing about their newest addition, Sjaak’s Chocolate Bites.

Sjaak's Chocolate Bites are like mini milk and dark Chocolate Butter Cups with creamy fillings. All vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free.

Tasting Notes for Sjaak’s Chocolate Bites

Sjaak’s Chocolate Bites are about the size of miniature Reeses Peanut Butter Cups, but far richer.  They are now available in several flavors, but at our time of review, they had the following three for us to sample.

    Almond Butter

The chocolate was a relatively mild dark, slightly richer in this combination than a semi-sweet, but with a sweet fruity finish.  The center was mild, somewhat reminiscent of a peanut butter cup but a bit drier, and with a much lighter almond taste.  My only complaint was that the very mild almond filling gets lost a bit among the bolder chocolate flavor.  A very tasty combo overall, but I would love for the almond filling to take its turn in the spotlight.

    Dark

This is simply a good rich, insanely dense chunk of dark chocolate.  Not much more needs to be said … there were certainly no complaints from us!

    Peanut Butter

I am an almond butter fanatic all the way, but there is something magical about peanut butter and chocolate.  The peanut butter is just so much bolder that it was able to hold its own with the dark chocolate.  Complimentary, yet each asserting its presence.  I think the almond butter in this blend was just a bit too timid for my taste buds, so I would select this good old PB & C.

    More Flavors

Sjaak’s Organic Chocolate Bites are insanely gift-worthy. But if you are like me and just love smaller guilty pleasures, they are a wonderfully inexpensive treat that can be bought in bulk. In addition to the ones I reviewed above, they offer all of the following flavors.

    • Caramel Bites
    • Caramel Melk Chocolate Bites
    • Dark Peppermint Cream Patties Bite
    • Green Tea & Lemon Heart
    • Hazelnut bites
    • Hearts of Cherry
