Cashews are cashews, right? At least this was my prior notion until I started to sample the various types and brands. After a few years of experimentation, I have landed firmly on raw cashews due to their versatility and natural sweetness that seems to get lost a bit in the roasting process.
But even raw cashews can differ, as I discovered upon tasting Navitas Cashew Power. I have been buying a very affordable generic brand of raw cashews, and they are good. Yet, they don’t measure up to the gentle bite, pure freshness, and pleasantly sweet flavor of Navitas.
Since Navitas are more than twice the price of my generic brand, I chose to savor them in their original form, as a delicious raw and natural energy snack. For regular recipes and baking, I will stick to the less expensive brand, since larger quantities are usually needed and the flavor of any ingredient tends to meld a bit with the mix. But for snacking or for creating raw desserts and snack bars, I definitely recommend Navitas.
