So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogurt Still Dazzles in a Dozen Flavors

By Alisa Fleming on January 3, 2020 Dairy-Free Yogurt Reviews, Product Reviews

A couple years ago, So Delicious reformulated their coconut milk yogurt to remove the carrageenan. The new recipe had some textural issues, but it seems they have smoothed things out. So today I’m updating our post with their most recent packaging, ingredients, nutrition facts, flavors, and more. This is our reader-rich format, so that you can get all of the information you need and leave your own rating and review below!

Tasting Notes for So Delicious Dairy Free Coconut Milk Yogurt

I love the packaging of this yogurt – even the single serves. They stack easily and have a lower profile for shorter shelves and drawers in the refrigerator, and the “eco-friendly” tops can be closed easily – if you don’t rip it when opening (which does happen!).

For me, this is a good staple dairy alternative. I’ve been buying the plain unsweetened So Delicious coconut milk yogurt for many years. It works well in sweet and savory recipes, is allergy-friendly (for recipe testing), and it takes well to sweeteners. I prefer just adding a little of my own sweetener to taste, as most yogurts contain more sugar than my stomach can handle in the morning. Some brands of unsweetened dairy-free yogurt really don’t meld well when sweetened at home, but this one is seamless whether I use stevia or honey. But please do leave your own review below! It helps others make an informed purchasing decision.

As a heads up, the live and active cultures used in So Delicious Coconut Milk Yogurt are grown on a plant-based medium (coconuts!). And they include the following: L. Bulgaricus, S. Thermophilus, L. Rhamnosus, L. Acidophilus, Bif. Bifidum, and Bif. Animalis.

Formula still needs some working out

    Rated 4 out of 5

Removing the carrageenan from dairy-free yogurt is tricky business. We don’t think they’ve mastered the formula yet, at least with the flavored varieties, which lacked that smooth mouth feel. Fortunately, the Unsweetened has retained a creamy consistency and the savory flavor that makes it our versatile go-to yogurt alternative.

I purchased this product last week. I was so excited when I saw it in the store, as I have recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and have started to adhere to the autoimmune protocol diet. However, when I opened my single serving unsweetened coconut yogurt container there was fluid all on the top and sides, while the yogurt had turned into a solid form – almost like a hard sponge in consistency. I could stab the yogurt solid and tried to mix it up, but it never turned creamy or look anything like the pictures above. It was a texture nightmare to say the least.

      • Alisa Fleming on April 17, 2017 1:49 pm

That sounds like a storage issue April. I buy this exact yogurt frequently and it always looks like my pictures above. You really should contact So Delicious to let them know. They can assess if it was poor storage due to the store or if there is a batch issue. They should know based on your description, so definitely reach out to them!

      • angelique campbell on October 19, 2017 5:11 am

The same thing happened to me. I mixed it up and tried it but it was very sour (blueberry flavor). I think it went bad.

    2. David on October 16, 2016 7:27 pm

We have been buying the Unsweetened unflavored coconut yogurts as we want to be dairy free and sugar free (or as low as possible). But we have noticed over the past few months, perhaps since August or so, that the consistency has changed from a nice yogurt solid and easy to spoon out, to a pure runny liquid. Initially we thought the local store might have not refrigerated it properly but purchases from different stores over the past few months show all of them are now liquid. Why the change in consistency? Might as well just use coconut or almond milk – at a much lower price.

      • Alisa Fleming on October 18, 2016 7:17 am

That’s very weird David. I buy the Unsweetened large tub, too, and haven’t been seeing that problem. Did you contact the company to alert them to this? I’m no affiliated with them, so I wouldn’t be able to address this issue your seeing, but I’m sure they would want to know. Here is their contact page – http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/contact-us

      • Tess on March 19, 2017 1:25 pm

ME TOO! In Calgary, AB. Why? It’s just a tub of liquid nowadays

    3. Sunny Drohan on September 30, 2016 5:32 am

I was very disappointed when I purchased the 5.3 oz. containers of the plain coconut yogurt. I had assumed, incorrectly, that it would be with out sugar as is the large container. When I went to eat it, I thought this is awfully sweet. And sure enough there was added sugar.
Why oh why did you add sugar? Now there are 11grams of sugar in this. The large container has 1 gram.
I will not be purchasing this again. So sad. If people want sugar let them add their own.

      • Alisa Fleming on October 9, 2016 8:39 am

Hi Sunny, that is frustrating! The small containers are identical to the big ones, but the flavor labeling can be confusing! You want to get the “Unsweetened” specifically. The ones that are just “Plain” without the unsweetened on the label do contain sugar in both sizes. I’m with you though – I use the unsweetened ones!

    4. Mark Hansen on August 3, 2016 9:19 pm

I love your unsweetened coconut milk yogurt. Every time I find it in a store, I buy all of them. But lately (last two months), I can’t find it anymore (SF East Bay area, CA). Not in Safeway, Raley’s, or Whole Foods. Are you phasing it out? Or are you backlogged in production?

      • Alisa Fleming on August 4, 2016 10:13 pm

Hi Mark, we’re not affiliated with So Delicious, but I can tell you that the packaging just changed quite a bit. When this happens, they take the old product out of stock before reintroducing the new packaging. It disappeared from my local grocer, too, and just reappeared last week. It’s definitely still around and if you don’t see it soon, you can request it in.

    5. Sharon peters on July 12, 2016 7:06 am

This is the best dairy free product I’ve ever had. Only found raspberry and strawberry/banna flavor here in va. Looking for mango.

So glad you are enjoying this dairy-free yogurt Sharon and thanks for sharing your feedback!

    6. Melissa on June 6, 2016 2:01 am

I’m very new to the dairy free diet, and am in the UK , can anyone advise me where I can purchase these items.

      • Alisa Fleming on June 6, 2016 7:34 am

Hi Melissa, I’m not sure if the products are in the UK and couldn’t answer product distribution questions. But the company should be able to. You can reach them easily through their website – http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/

    7. Chelsea on May 14, 2016 11:49 pm

I really like the plain yogurt with my paleo granola I make. This yogurt is awesome. I don’t care for the ingredients locust bean gum and all the wierd stuff but the plain doesn’t have that in it.

We are still waiting for your brand of yogert to come back its the only kind I can eat what’s the problem ,you said something about a new recipe I have a case on order from my local store why did you stop making what you were making before you had the new rescipe ready

      • Alisa Fleming on February 12, 2016 11:03 am

Hi Jo Ann, I’m not affiliated with So Delicious, this is my unbiased review (review update of the new version coming!). But what I have learned of production is that it isn’t this simple. Most likely they have to use the same equipment to produce the new yogurt recipe as the old, which means they can’t be working on production of the new recipe (testing and such) while still producing the old. Also, stores like Whole Foods won’t typically give space on shelves to stock new varieties along with old (they only have a set space), so they may opt to run out what it is in inventory before scaling up with the new version. The packaging is also different, which may affect how they are on the shelves in terms of space. There is always a method to the madness especially in the complex world of food manufacturing!

I can’t find the so delicious yogurt anywhere where I live. I have tried Walmart, Target, Publix, Winn Dixie, Aldi’s, Fresh Market…can find the coconut milk and ice cream, but not the yogurt. I live in the Villages, Florida 32162 area. Anyone know where I can find the So Delicious yogurt near here?

      • Alisa Fleming on May 25, 2015 1:29 pm

I would check the store finder on their website Joan – http://sodeliciousdairyfree.com/store-finder.

    11. Stephanie Jensen on November 29, 2014 9:22 pm

Thanks for that on the chocolate. I looked at the packages on the ones that I have. They don’t have the DE on the kosher certification. Something must have improved, at least where I am at.

    12. Stephanie Jensen on November 28, 2014 10:04 pm

This is one of the first ones that I tried when I found out about my allergy last year. I like it. I get the strawberry, strawberry banana, blueberry, and the passionate mango. Strawberry and strawberry banana were my favorite yogurts before I found out about my allergy. I tried the chocolate and didn’t like it.

      • Alisa Fleming on November 29, 2014 9:04 am

I always find chocolate yogurts a bit odd, so I hear you on that flavor Stephanie!

I love these yogurts too but noticed some of the flavors have carrageenan in them. So I’m limited to only a few flavors. 🙁

      • Alisa Fleming on July 20, 2014 7:44 am

Indeed, they do, what a bummer! Not many companies are making them without gums or carrageenan.
