For ingredients, price, and all-around taste, this seedy spread is a winner. Though I'm usually put off by the harsh taste of many seeds, this allergy-friendly company roasts their sunflower, flax, and sesame seeds before blending, and spikes the butter with just enough salty-sweetness to mask most of the bitterness.

With food allergies persevering into childhood and beyond, it’s no wonder that we’re seeing brands like SuperButter emerge. And what better time of year to try this premium, top allergen-free seed butter than back to school? Now, more than ever, safe spreads and dips are needed for lunchboxes and nut-free policies.

SuperButter Premium Seed Butter - Nut-, Peanut-, and Dairy-Free (great for lunch boxes!)

SuperButter is available in four varieties, but thus far, we’ve only trialed the Creamy Original SuperButter. The texture is rich and creamy, though not quite as smooth as peanut butter. The flavor is pure, yet unique and slightly addicting. I actually hadn’t expected to love it – I usually find seeds to be too harsh in flavor. But they’ve add just the right amount of salt and cane sugar to temper the bitterness. Also elevating the fresh roasted and slightly earthy taste of the sunflower, flax, and sesame seeds.

According to the company, it’s made in a facility that is free of the Top 8 allergens (including dairy, egg, peanut, nut, soy, and wheat). The competitive pricing is also a pleasant surprise. In a time of fancy nut butters galore, many topping $10 a jar, and the extra cost of free-from manufacturing, SuperButter keeps it realistic for consumers.

And of course, it is amazing with granola! I topped ours with Nana’s Nola – a nut-free and dairy-free granola made with gluten-free whole grains and a touch of ground sunflower seeds.

  1. Looking for recipes to use the superbutter in. Does it replace butter in a recipe? Looking through some of the listed recipes but really found none containing the superbutter. I would like to make cookies out of it. Any suggestions or recipes?

    • Hi Michele, I’m not affiliated with SuperButter, but it replaces peanut butter or nut butter in recipes, not dairy butter. It’s a ground seed butter. So any recipe using a nut butter (cookies, smoothies, sauces, etc) you can use an equivalent amount of SuperButter. Sadly, it looks like the company has gone out of business though. I think this was quite recent as I checked late last year and they were still there, but now their site is gone.
