Sweet Amsterdam’s founders are from Holland, and want people in the U.S., even those with food allergies, to enjoy the delicious treats they grew up with. Which is why they now offer their traditional stroopwafels in three flavors: Real Organic Honey, Caramel & Cinnamon, and Caramel & Sea Salt.
What are Stroopwafels? Traditional Dutch stroopwafels are big wafer-like cookies made by pressing a layer of sticky caramel syrup between two very thin, soft, but lightly crispy waffles. They hail from the Dutch city of Gouda (of all places!), and are popular throughout the Netherlands. Of course, stroopwafels are typically made with wheat and dairy. But Sweet Amsterdam Stroopwafels are dairy-free, gluten-free, organic, and made to taste authentic.
You can pack Sweet Amsterdam Stroopwafels for a special treat, enjoy them as an energizing snack, or savor them the Dutch way. Let a stroopwafel sit on your mug to discover their gooey secret. Sweet Amsterdam Stroopwafels have the perfect diameter for placing over a mug of hot coffee or tea. This warms the cookies, melting the center slightly for a heavenly bite.
Sweet Amsterdam Stroopwafels Now in 3 Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free Flavors
My stroopwafel exposure is limited, so I can’t compare these to “classic” wheat and dairy containing versions. But I can tell you that Sweet Amsterdam Stroopwafels are darn good. We tried the Traditional flavor, which has been transformed into their Caramel & Cinnamon flavor.
Sweet Amsterdam Stroopwafels have a perfectly light, crisp, and thin waffle exterior, which quickly gives way to a tender, chewy caramel filling. Together, the package is a unique cookie-like experience with a sweet finish. I was going to split one with Tony, but quickly found myself devouring the whole stroopwafel! Lucky for him, we had more. I had acquired a whole 12-pack. But needless to say, even that stockpile didn’t last long. One by one, those soft, crispy, gooey cookies just kept disappearing.
