Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream is a Classic Dairy-Free Alternative

    0
By Alisa Fleming on June 25, 2020 Dairy-Free Cream Reviews (Sour, Whipped & More), Product Reviews

Updated September 2022! Don’t quote me on this, but Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream might have been the first dairy-free sour cream alternative on the market, so many years ago. Compared to many of the newer vegan alternatives, with all of their healthy ingredients and modern packaging designs, Tofutti looks downright old school. But it humbly remains one of the most popular vegan sour creams.

Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream Reviews and Info - a Dairy-Free and Vegan Classic

Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream is a Classic Dairy-Free Alternative

Honestly, I’ve never seen the guacamole flavor, but Tofutti told me it’s still out there. The Plain version with the blue tub is much easier to find.

    Plain

Years ago, they made this Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream with hydrogenated oils, but they’ve discontinued that version. This one is made without expeller-pressed oils.

Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream Reviews and Info - a Dairy-Free and Vegan ClassicIngredients: water, expeller processed natural oil blend (soybean, palm fruit, and olive), maltodexterin, non-gmo (soy protein, tofu), non-dairy lactic acid, organic sugar, blend of natural gums (locust bean, guar, cellulose and xanthan) and salt. contains: soy.

    Nutrition (per 2 tablespoons): 85 calories, 5g fat, 9g carbs, 0g fiber, 2g sugars, 1g protein.*

    Guacamole

This is more of a guacamole-flavored sour cream alternative, not actually guacamole with sour cream.

Tofutti Better Than Sour Cream Reviews and Info - a Dairy-Free and Vegan ClassicIngredients: water, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, non-gmo isolated soy protein, maltodextrin, tofu, nondairy lactic acid, cellulose, locust bean, guar and carrageenan, gums, sugar, avocado flavor, spices, salt, veg. mono and giglycerides, potassium sorbate (added as a preservative). contains: soy.

    Nutrition (per 2 tablespoons): 85 calories, 5g fat, 9g carbs, 0g fiber, 2g sugars, 1g protein.*

New Black Label Product has 80% More Saturated Fat

    Rated 1 out of 5
    December 5, 2022

The new product with the black label has 80% more saturated fat compared with the older blue label product (18% DV vs. 10% DV). Presumably, this is due to the use of only palm oil instead of a mixture of soybean oil, palm oil, and olive oil. Go back to the older formulation. Most people use this product in hopes of finding a healthy substitute for dairy-based sour cream, and would prefer a higher price to a formulation with so much more saturated fats.
