Trader Joe’s Vegan Cream Cheese Goes Soy-Free with All New Recipe

    0
By Alisa Fleming on August 26, 2021 Dairy-Free Cheese Substitute Reviews, Product Reviews

Despite the popularity of Trader Joe’s Vegan Cream Cheese alternative, the hip supermarket chain has opted to completely change their recipe. They’ve swapped chickpea protein for the soy protein, cut the cornstarch, and switched up several other ingredients.  It still looks enticing, but how does it taste?

So, what’s great about soy in cream cheese is that it makes it more fluffy and creamy. The new recipe melts like butter and totally loses the consistency it should have as a cream cheese alternative. I used to love Trader Joe’s Cream Cheese Alternative and Tofutti cream cheese. Trader Joe’s new recipe has definitely taken it down a few notches. Still, it’ll do.

I personally hated the original version. It didn’t taste anything like cream cheese and this one is the most similar to Philadelphia block cc. I don’t have problems spreading it.

This is better than the old formula and now the favorite of all vegan cream cheese products that have entered our household.

    Amazing Taste and Consistency

The only other comparison I have to the TJ’s vegan cream cheese is the simple truth dairy free cream cheese from Kroger. The trader joe’s one beats the Kroger one by far. The Kroger one I had was disgusting. This one tastes delicious and although its slightly more firm I still found it spreadable. Don’t let these other reviews deter you. Truly the ingredients are decent enough, it’s very fairly priced and well worth a try in my opinion.

how can anyone eat this? it is so hard it is difficult to get the product out of the container, let alone mix it into something, I don’t know what set of kitchen tools one would have to have to make this “stone” cheese work.

I used it for vegan sushi and it was perfect.
On a bagel it kind of “melted” like the other vegan cream cheeses I have tried but tasted good.
Definitely needs to be “mashed” a bit to improve spreadability. Texture is similar to a Philadelphia block cream cheese.
This cc has the best flavor of the few I have tried (old TJ’s and Miyoko’s).
