Violife Vegan Cheese Shreds come in Classic Cheesy Flavors

By Alisa Fleming on January 6, 2020 Dairy-Free Cheese Substitute Reviews, Product Reviews

Violife Vegan Cheese Shreds are just like their Slices, but in more basic flavors. As you can see in the picture below, this cheese alternative does melt, and many report that it tastes delicious. But you be the judge! We have more information below and consumer ratings and reviews!

Violife Vegan Cheese Shreds Reviews and Information (Dairy-Free Cheese Alternative in Mozzarella and Cheddar)

Violife Vegan Cheese Shreds come in Classic Cheesy Flavors

I wouldn’t be surprised if they expand to other varieties, but for now, Violife has dairy-free consumers covered with alternatives for the two most popular shredded cheese varieties.

    Cheddar

    More Allergen Notes

We received the following very detailed and helpful information from a Violife representative about their dairy allergen protocols.

Regarding dairy ingredients, please note that we do share lines in some parts of the production process. However, we clean our equipment VERY meticulously, with multiple allergen swab testings to confirm absence of cross-contamination with dairy. Furthermore, production samples are sent to an accredited lab for allergen analysis. Our results are consistently negative for the presence of any dairy allergens.

Please note though that testing for absence of any dairy allergen is conducted as mentioned via multiple swab testing with a 0.4ppm* sensitivity after the weekend full cleaning. Once negative results are achieved our vegan production can commence Monday morning. We must stress that a negative result at 0.4ppm means that there is no dairy allergens present in concentration above that point.

*PPM = part per million, or less than 0.4 mg allergen in 1 Kg of product, or less than 0.01 mg in 20gr (1 slice) of product. 1mg = One thousandth of a gram.

As stated, the aforementioned allergens are not detectable by our testing. We have never had an issue and we export globally.

The feta might be the best vegan cheese I have ever tried. It is only available at Walmart. I never shop Walmart but I make special trips ever two weeks to stock up. Amazing in Greek salad and pizza.

I have been getting their Mozzarella from Amazon for a long time as when I tried them, I was totally amazed at how wonderful they are. Granted they are a bit salty but hey, you do not need to add salt to anything you use the Mozzarella cheese on. Also, the Cheddar cheese is wonderful. I get that at Walmart. I am very impressed at how wonderful their cheese is!

So I know this sounds dramatic, but I had been vegetarian for a few years and known for my cheese addiction for 38 years. I ate it by the pound wherever I went. Now I did see “dairy is scary” but another expose on Fairlife farms dairy operation made me throw up and stop cold turkey. That was a year and a half ago. Not trying to hate, I just don’t like Daiya, it’s almost sour tasting to me. Yesterday I bought the Violofe Colby jack shreds and put it in a burrito. When I tasted it, my eyes welled up with tears. It was just a taste I never thought I’d experience again and it means so much to me, so thank you! I bought three more bags today along with the cheddar slices. Cheddar is good but bland. In something melted it would be great!I will be buying every variety they make because I trust the taste. Thank you Violife-Cheesy vegan

Almond and soy based cheese have a nasty after taste. These folks switched to potato starch and coconut. Good choices. Smoother, easier, and tastes more like cheese.

How did you get it to melt?

    Rated 4 out of 5
    July 20, 2020

I really like the taste of the cheddar shreds and the consistency, but I tried to put it in a baked nacho dish and it would not melt. My shreds just got hard and crunchy. 350° for almost 30 minutes and took it out because I could not get it to melt and it was just getting worse. Any ideas? Thanks

    Response from Go Dairy Free

Cheese alternatives are very sensitive to moisture, so they can easily dry out in the oven, especially if it isn’t very humid where you are right now. I recommend melting it on the stove top, adding some liquid as needed, and then pouring it over the nachos, like a nacho cheese sauce. I haven’t tried Violife, but all of the cheese alternatives I’ve tested to date will melt on the stove top – though I often add a little liquid as needed.
