I like to make my own dairy-free onion soup mix for cost, convenience, and quality control. It works well in various recipes, from dips to entrée seasoning, but our favorite use is in Swistle’s Soup, otherwise known as Mom’s Best Turkey Vegetable Soup.
Special Diet Notes: Dairy-Free Onion Soup Mix
By ingredients, this recipe is dairy-free / non-dairy, egg-free, gluten-free, nut-free, peanut-free, soy-free, and all around food allergy-friendly. Just be sure to select your bouillon wisely, as some do contain allergens and/or additives.
For a dairy-free onion soup mix that is also vegan and vegetarian, use a vegan bouillon, such a Edward & Son’s.
- ¼ cup dairy-free beef bouillon powder (or vegan option)
- ¾ cup dried minced onion
- 4 teaspoons onion powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- Mix all ingredients well, making sure to break up any clumps of bouillon.
- Store in an airtight container and use as needed. Keeps for several months.
Makes four ¼ cup servings.
Each serving is equal to one packet of onion soup mix.
