Unfortunately, Milkadamia Buttery Spread has been discontinued. For options that are currently available, see our Dairy-Free Butter Reviews.
Most brands of dairy-free buttery spread contain palm oil, soy, and/or added proteins. But Milkadamia Buttery Spread is a basic water and oil emulsion, made with a blend of non-GMO oils.
Christina Downey, the CMO of Milkadamia, states that using palm oil in this product would be counter-intuitive to their company’s origins.
The company grew out of a family farm, nestled near the rainforests of the eastern coast of Australia, where macadamias originate. As such when creating our buttery spread, it seemed the antithesis to develop one utilizing palm oil given the level of rainforest deforestation that crop has caused.

Milkadamia is my favorite vegan butter!
Which is why I’m very sad that all my local stores have stopped carrying it. I asked Milkadamia where I could find their buttery spread and just got this reply:
We are heartbroken to say that milkadamia plant-based butter is no longer available in mainstream grocery stores. We LOVE our butter – it is in our opinion the best product we have ever made, and we are immensely proud of it. Grocery retailers however don’t share our enthusiasm and have taken a commercial decision to replace it with other brands that give them higher sales. We are a small company of only nine people and do not have enough sway with the giant grocery retailers to convince them to persevere with values-based brands for a little longer.
Focusing on the positives we are taking the opportunity to explore better packaging – less plastic, we were never comfortable with single use plastic. We will represent the improved offer to retailers in the hope they reconsider, and we promise to keep representing until they relent. Meanwhile we will continue to develop and present other palm-oil free, regeneratively grown foods and beverages.
Thank you for supporting milkadamia’s butter, we apologize we were not able to convince retailers to keep it. We appreciate you cared enough to write to us, it is encouraging to know we are not alone in caring about the fate of our lovely butter.
Kind Regards,
The team at milkadamia
Love it!
It is my new favorite product.
Amazing!
The most delicious, perfectly-salted butter I’ve ever had. You can eat it my itself it’s so good. 😁
Tastes like real butter!
This truly taste like a high-quality butter made from cows. I’ve tasted a lot of butter substitutes and this one is by far the best! Lovely, mild flavor.
Love
Thank you for creating this awesome sweet, buttery spread! I love it and put it on everything!
New Favorite!
After trying this butter I’m not going back! It’s even better than Miyokos or Earth Balance
My favorite vegan butter by far, and I even prefer it grass-fed salted butter.
I’m pescatarian, so not full vegan, or even vegetarian, so we have butter in the house for my partner and as well as for cooking etc. I like making daily swaps that make for a more healthful, more-cruelty free lifestyle, and this is my favorite! It is palm oil free, which is a baseline requirement for anything that gets into my kitchen, and completely delicious. Both my boyfriend (not at all dairy free) and I love this butter on toast, and it is totally meltable and spreadable and salty-buttery delicious. I haven’t used it in recipe yet, because I love it so much that I’d rather use cheaper butter from Grocery Outlet on things where it is mixed in, and save this for my daily toast, but I would happily use it for all of my butter needs without batting an eye if it were consistently available for$3 a carton, as I have found it for a couple of times at grocery outlet.
Terrible Flavor.
I was really excited to see yet another butter alternative at my local Whole Foods, and I was utterly disappointed. The buttery spread was at the most reasonable price relative to other options, but the taste is very distinct and it made me gag a little. It’s gross!
Tasty and melts well.
I picked up a container at Whole Foods, I found that, not only does it melt like butter, it has delicious flavor too!
Very rich!
I love the ingredients and the richness they impart on this spread. It melts wonderfully, but is quite solid straight from the refrigerator. It’s best when softened a bit. My husband and I each thought it had a rather pronounced flavor for a butter alternative, I’m guessing from the macadamia nut oil since it didn’t taste like coconut to us.
