It wasn’t until recently that I made the solid connection between cacao beans and chocolate. But thanks to the raw food movement, my knowledge keeps on growing. Terms like raw cacao and cacao butter are now things I seek out when I get a craving for chocolate. Needless to say, my cravings quickly led me to Artisana Cacao Bliss.
Artisana is most known for their raw nut butters, but they also work a good deal of magic with cacao and coconut butter. With it, they have created Cacao Bliss, which is what they call “a rich, creamy, chocolaty coconut spreadable nectar.” Cacao Bliss is solid at cooler room temperatures, but once the jar warms up, its contents turn into a smooth, spreadable chocolate.
The coconut based Cacao Bliss is the original and the only one we have had a chance to try, but Artisana has since introduced a few more varieties. These rich decadent spreads are now available made with sunflower seeds, cashews, and hazelnuts.
We enjoyed it as the “icing” in our graham sandwich cookies. I set them in the fridge allowing the sauce become a thick frosting consistency. It has such a rich deepness with a dark cacao flavor and pleasant sweetness.
