Fantastic World Food - Easy vegetarian food mixes for a quick meal!

I purchased this product on deep discount, as my local grocer was discontinuing it.  Unfortunately, I can see why.  This “just add water” dry mix is supposed to magically transform into veggie burgers.  Alas, the dough was quite sticky and hard to work with.  Once I finally coerced them into patties, they did cook up easily, browning in just a few minutes per side.

While the texture was fine, the flavor was bland and slightly bitter.  The ingredients listed dehydrated vegetables among the second ingredient, yet I couldn’t detect a single veggie … just flours and grains.  While this product was a disappointment, it worked fine as veggie burger crumbles atop our salads, masked by the other more flavorful components.

Yes, some Vegenaise, Lemony Dill Seasoning from the ladies at Vegetarian Express, and a dash of almond milk made for a smashing salad dressing (in seconds might I add!) that covered up the rather sad flavor of this product, for a wonderful lunchtime salad.

Where to Purchase: You can buy Nature’s Burger in stores, or direct from the Fantastic Foods website.  However, if you do, I would also pick up a seasoning from Vegetarian Express and a jar of Vegenaise to improve the experience.

  1. Nature burger has been around a long time and was one of the first vegetarian burger convenience foods. While many new analogs have come (and gone), it is good, and it is GREAT for camping!

  2. I like the taste but the texture could be a little tougher. Will let sit in fridge overnight with the addition of chopped onion, celery and grated carrot as well as try cutting in a little quinoa. I’ve found that with the addition of a cup or so of quinoa my meatloaf turns into a rock. Not that bad though I was surprised that it did that. I’ve added rice and bulgur cooked that is, and they do as I thought which is stretch the product. The more I think of it, the quinoa might work. Squeeze excess juice out of the onions and celery before the addition. Good luck…..also let stand the pattis overnight, as I noticed that the chopped beans in the mix did not soften very well……b G Luck!

  3. i spice it up by adding onions, powdered chilli, black pepper, cayenne pepper etc when i’ve added the water. if its too dry to form into patties i add a tad more water and i have no difficulty in forming patties that keep their shape. and the taste is wonderful

    I have had no problems and the wife loves the flavor and even I like this product (hard core carnivore that I am) …. veggies-dehydrated do not appear until 8th or 9th ingredient. I pour the boiling water in and let sit for the 15 min or more as instructed . … wet my hands and form patties.
    A savory mix of veggies and hearty whole grain that delivers a ‘sink-your-teeth-into-it’ satisfaction.
